oh man what cpu to get?

xreaperx22

Budget (including currency): 1500 u.s dollars for cpu only

Country: usa

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming in 4k,and 1440p also lots of video editing.game streaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

already have a 3080 gpu,already have a case,PSU,Ram,and drives

so im on the fence as to what cpu i should get im going AMD no matter what but theres 3 options,3900xt,3950x or 3960x,thats why i put 1500 price for cpu only as the threadrippers are expensive lol and of course ill need to get a motherboard also but have everything else pretty much, hate having parts laying around lol so what are your thoughts? i know the 3960x would be a beast for editing (4k vids) but prolly not a good gamer, idk too many choices!

FWIW, AMD has already made bold claims that their upcoming launches won't be paper launches. That remains to be seen of course, but I'd imagine it's accurate. Remember that Nvidia's GPUs are using a totally new die from a much smaller fab (Samsung), so there's issues with both yield and supply in general. From everything known so far, neither AMD's new CPUs nor GPUs are using different processes, so availability and yield should be much better.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X · Cooler: Artic Liquid Freezer II 280 · Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 Unify · RAM: G.skill Ripjaws V 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16 (2Rx8) · Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming · Boot Drive: 500GB WD Black SN750 M.2 NVMe SSD · Game Drive: 2TB Crucial MX500 SATA SSD · PSU: Corsair White RM850x 850W 80+ Gold · Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow · Monitor: MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34” UWQHD 3440x1440 144Hz · Keyboard: Corsair K100 RGB Optical-Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (OPX Switch) · Mouse: Corsair Ironclaw RGB Wireless Gaming Mouse

So amd is releasing "5000" series this year wasn't that next year what about 4000 series?

Yeah. I've only seen that on a few less than reputable sites, though. Not sure where this whole "it's actually going to be 5000 series" crap came from. Maybe there's something to it, but I'll believe it when I see it.

It's also possible AMD is already testing the next next generation. Zen 3 is just 7nm+, and it's already been known that AMD is eyeing 5nm. They probably already have development 5nm in the pipeline, and that's what's popping up, not Zen 3.
