Do we know what the recommended setup is for an RTX 3070? What I mean by this is the minimum watts, CPU, etc.

I'm planning on buying one, but I want to know what the required components are to run it without bottlenecking it.

My current build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

Mobo: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite V2

GPU: XFX Radeon RX 6800 SWFT 319

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO (4x8 3200MHz)

Storage: Patriot P300 128GB, XPG SPECTRIX S40G 1TB, WD HDD 1TB

Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i RGB ELITE

PSU: Corsair RMx 750W 80 Plus Gold

Case: Corsair 4000D

Monitor: AOC Q27G2S

Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB PLATINUM

Mouse: Roccat Burst Pro

Headphones: Roccat ELO 7.1 USB

Microphone: Roccat Torch

The PSU wattage they mentioned is a 650W PSU, but you still want a good quality unit as well.

Without knowing the specifics of what is needed, the PSU Tier List on this forum is a good resource for what the good options are:

I would stick with anything in Tier A, 650W or more (more would only be needed with a Ryzen 9/Intel Core i9 or better CPU).

Speaking of CPU's; a CPU for the RTX 3070!

Of course without the 3070 being out yet, we don't know it's exact performance, but with its expected performance likely to be within RTX 2070 Super - 2080 Super range, you'll want a decently good CPU.

Think in the range of a Ryzen 5 3600(X), Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i5 10600(K)/i7 10700(K).

Of course the exact best choices will depend on a couple different factors, including, but not limited to:

- Workload ("what are you gonna do on the PC", including which games for example)

- Budget

I would say some AMD processor in the ryzen 5 series or whatever. Or one of the latest i5 or i7. With atleast 16gb of 3200mhz ram of course.

cpu requirements depends on the refresh rate you are targetting (though the minimum i'd go with is a r5 3600), official recommended psu is 650w though 600w should do find, pick from the psu list above.

With the power consumption around 250w, i say a 550w psu should be enough to power it.

It depends on the usecase.

Which SPECIFIC games?

Which mods?

with optifine and the best available shaders you won’t even be a little bit bottlenecked by cpu.
I exspect the 3070 to hit around 30 FPS with 16 chunks render distance.

With this distance even a i7 980x would not bottleneck the 3070.

But not have decent power efficiency while doing so. Power curves are a thing. Also, running near or at maximum load causes more heat, which both reduces the lifespan of the PSU, and makes the fan run louder.

If you care about your PSU lasting, electric costs, and/or noise, then get at least a 650W from Tier A. If you care about none of those, then yeah a 550W unit will probably work.

I'm getting a Seasonic +80 gold 650. Like posters mention prior, you could probably get away with a 600w PSu but I would go any lower; and I wouldn't go lower than +80 Bronze. So if you got a 550 you may want to look into an upgrade.

I'm running a gold rated 550w PSU (Corsair TXM) with an R5 3600.

3070 should be safe at that point no? Pretty sure my vega 56 when OC'd managed to hit 250 watts on this PSU with no issues.

Technically your PSU should handle it. And the 3070 is rated at 220? But thats at nearing 100% of it's rated wattage. And you get potentially less stability the closer you get the a PSU's wattage rating. Not always but more often than you might like. I know it's an extra 120-160 bucks more but I would go for it. And please do your research, I'm still learning myself. But if I'm buying a $500 GPU I want it as stable and high-performing as possible.

Here's a decent wattage calculator I use if you want to check yourself: https://seasonic.com/wattage-calculator

That recommends a 500 wattage PSU for my setup. Think i'm comfortable with 550 gold.

Generally speaking people overestimate PSU needs. Think Nvidia is covering their ass a bit with the 650 watt recomendation for the 3070. Though that was only recommended based on it being paired with a 10900k which is rated for up to 125 watts on it's own.

Well he seems to enjoy OCing, plus PSU efficiency generally tend to curve ever downward once you past the 80% mark. Which for a 550w is 440w. Seems to me that if you want to ensure stability/efficiency going with the recommended 650w is the way to go. Especially if your prone to OCing. But admittingly, maybe I'm overthinking it.

Good point, hopefully you remember to update this thread with your results. What build are you running?

R5 3600, 2x 8 gig DDR4 3200mhz ram, 2x 500 gig Sata SSD's, 1x 7200rpm HDD, 2x 140mm intake fans, 2x 120mm outtake fans, 1x 120mm CPU fan. Running with a vega 56 currently.

It might be cutting it a little close with the 3070, but since i'm running a 95hz 1440p monitor at worst I could probably undervolt the 3070 a bit. Most likely going with founders rather than a pre-OC'd card too.
