i7 8700k w/ 3080

SHADY16

so would my 8700k @ 5ghz  be good for the 3080 at 4k? also would a corsair 850RM be good enough for the card?

PSU is fine, you'd realistically want to wait for reviews but it should do all right.

You mean in general or with the CPU? The 3080 is putting 4k well within reach even at higher refresh rates.

in general, like would it bottleneck the RTX 3080 in any way. theres also a chance i might hold out for a possible RTX 3080 Ti

4k Gaming to me is still not worth doing. Even with the 3080 pushing to about 80-130 FPS in 4k in some games. Still too much of a performance hit then using a 1440p 165hz+ monitor for just a bit more eye candy.

Plus the 4k 144hz monitors are still  crazy expensive

ah i have a 1440p 144hz monitor as my 2nd monitor it could just be my eyes but i cant distinguish the difference between 60hz and 144hz they both feel the same to me.

They are VASTLY different. If you cant tell the difference i would 100% make sure that its actually on. Because there is a MASSIVE difference lol

I notice it Immediatly just by my cursor movement and such. Not too sure what to make of that lol. Also do you Prefer FPS games on Console because they are easier? :P Also COD games are Awful because lack of anti cheats so i could see why PC wouldnt be as fun, although there are still hackers there too :(

you could say that lol. only shooting type games i have on pc are division 2 and destiny 2 and ive tried both at 1440p 144hz and 4k 60 hz and cant tell the difference at all between refresh rate though my eyesight isnt the best so thats probably why

I have tried 144p 144hz and 1440p 60 hz and the difference is so obvious I would compare it to.... walking in the woods barefoot VS walking in the woods with hiking shoes

Also I can easily tell difference between gsync on or off

If you play strategy games of course the 144hz you might not feel it, but to be honest just moving the mouse in windows, you can tell the difference easily !!! I can't bear 60hz anymore just moving the mouse in windows is clunky

IF you play a racing game or FPS game, then refresh rates are obvious

I know people who had 1440p 144hz for years and then finally realised they have to go to NVIDIA panel and set the refresh rates to 144hz loooll

Then they were " ohh now I see the difference "

haha

i barely play those types of games though mainly MMO type games. i stopped playing destiny 2 and division 2 a while ago as they got boring. other games i play with friends are ark gta 5 and sometimes red dead redemption 2.

Probably, but you'd have to wait for reviews to come out...and likely a while longer than regular reviews, as it'll have to be someone that for some reason tests it with the full lineup of AMD CPUs down to the 3100. You can check out reviews of the 3300x at 4k, and it's about on par with what you can expect with a 7700k, maybe a touch faster. IIRC Steve or Jay did the test. But that's I Ly relevant for the 2080Ti/3070. If you keep waiting, you'll be waiting forever. There will always be something better just over the hill, especially if they release the Ti variants a year after the vanilla ones line I predict they'll go back to.

To you

I'd rather have 4k at 110ish than 1440p at 165ish. Cost of the monitor is also irrelevant to some people.

Yes, the 8700k is an excellent CPU for the 3080.

Also, the 3080 will excel at 1440p high refresh or 4K gaming. The 3080 was literally built for 4K gaming.

all cpus will bottleneck the 3080/3090 somewhat at higher refresh rate if uncapped (moore's law talked about that briefly), we need single thread performance to improve with zen 3.

As for how much, i'd guess about 5-10% for a 8700k, nothing i'd upgrade for, but hoping for a positive surprise from amd
