Why are PC Parts prices are sky-rocketing / over-priced in Japan?

 

RTX 3080 is like 699$ (74,200 yen) but it is 109,800 yen (1035$) in Japan.
Why the 300$ difference? Why ??? (T_T)

As far as I know, RTX 3080 and 3090 will officially be released on the 17th and thus the prices for the cards are still not the final ones -- they may be wildly off the actual price.

Other brands will come out soon enough and that might make the price fall a bit but why 50% overprice, though? That doesn't stop with GPUs. Almost all the pc parts are 50% overpriced compare to other countries.

I can just get from US Amazon with the same or lower cost but the waiting time got extended by a huge length.

Japan isn't much into PC gaming, so with less stock (or smaller orders from retailers) pricing can be more volatile. Plus Japan has a 10% VAT, so $700 in the US would directly correspond to $770 in Japan.

I'm not Japanese, so I don't know. Could be e.g. their equivalent of VAT, like e.g. here in Finland we've got a VAT of 24% and thus pretty much everything is a lot more expensive than in e.g. Germany. Also, over here, companies are greedy and just directly convert $1 USD to 1€, even though $1 is nowhere near the value of 1€.

Well, with VAT it actually balances out the currency conversion.

How so? A $100 product is 100€ + 24% VAT, so 124€ (~ $146) over here. I don't see how that balances anything.

Honestly outside of Chins, the US and sometimes Germany and the UK, all countries rip ppl off for hardware. Just different in how absurd it gets

In the case of Japan, it's 50%+ for the hardwares.

We still have one week till official release, until then they can do whatever they want in stores, like this in Switzerland.

I guess they still want to get rid of all those 20xx in higher prices while they can, and as there are no pre-orders - who cares what price tag they put for now.

The UK seems to have went for a 1 to 1 conversion from the US.

No, it's about 100€

No, it's 124€. Like I said, the vendors here convert the $100 to 100€, and then the VAT is calculated from that.
