Would you rather have...

If you had to choose between one or the other, can't have both now you richy-mcrichy-von-fancypants, would you rather have...

  • A 3D-Printer.  For imagination sake let's say the new MakerBot Z18:

That one that prints full sized helmets!  I would say one of the super industrial machines that completely mimic the copied object:

But, let's make the scope of this question something that can be somewhat achievable by almost everybody.

or

  • The Oculus Rift. Crystal Cove edition with that infrared spacial placement upgrade.

And of course here's that LTT love >>>

To create in reality from the virtual or to create in the virtual to mimic reality?

oooOoooOOooOoOOooo  ok i'm bored...

But in all honesty, if you think about it rationally it wouldn't make much sense to get a rift since a 3D printer is probably worth a lot more. So even if you want a rift just get the printer, sell it, get a rift and keep the extra ca$h ;)

Some of the 3D printers out there are impressive, but the oculus rift is far more exciting. I would go for the oculus.

Hard to compare when the rift is in a completely different price bracket. Not only that, but filament for 3d printing is expensive, so it will continue to drain your pocket long after you bought the printer.

He who dies with the most tools wins.

rift, i get that the 3d printer is worth more but what do i have to print?. i can design a 3d model of GabeN and look at it with ultra realism with my rift

What would I use a 3D printer for? I don't work with 3D modelling...

Therefore, Oculus.

3D printer for sure. I am going to get one, I am just not satisfied with the printable area vs cost of the machine.

When they have larger printing areas for cheaper ill get one. I really want to print off all my favourite anime and game characters as figures but at the same scale. It gets to me sometimes when two characters who should be the same ish height are not just because the different companies used different scales.

The only reason I would ever get a 3D printer is too make a bunch of dumb, small objects, and Daft Punk Helmets. :)

My new rig build log:http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/80801-m-itx-pc/?p=1158887 Now finished with  970!                          Can anybody give me a freelancer?                  I need to transport more HYPBP.               Butt Imperium games                     RAINBOW .                   840 EVO still awesome                    The evil that is verizon has been vanquished!      ܝܘܚܢܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܦܪܝܡ

I have found quite a few local companies that can do 3D prints that both on better machines and qualities than I would reasonably afford at home for not a lot of markup. So while I have a few small things to print I have found outsourcing it to these firms has saved me a tonne of money.

Can't outsource an occulus rift, it can only be bought and loved!
