Desk Upgrade 2020 (I have been mentioning for awhile)

Jason 57

I have been using the same desk for a number of years now.

I share my desk and computer with my daughter.

She draws and does animation. I convert analog tapes to digital. We both do some light gaming.

I was hoping to have this desk upgrade done before I upgraded my computer, but alas that was not the case. (not sure if the pun was intended)

This thread will be the photos of my desk transformation. Sadly I am not just buying some IKEA furniture to do this.

I hope everyone enjoys, and I would feedback!

This is the desk area before the upgrade. (Both computer and desk)

Sorry for the flash on my daughters Drawing Tablet (22" XP-Pen tablet).

This is after I got the Cable Modem and Router off the desktop.

I used a cable sleeve to keep everything bundled. (Old me would just let the wires hang wherever)

I had to move the UPS to my desk because the Cable modem power cable wasn't long enough.

Yesterday (8/30/2020) I cut, sanded and started to stain the wood.

These are the legs and risers. I only have done one side. Doing the other side today.

FYI, this is a Navy colored Semi-transparent wood stain.

I couldn't take anymore photos because I was running out of daylight.

My son thought I was staining Black, but I can see, these pieces are really dark.

Tomorrow, I should have some more photos uploaded.

Well with no time to put on the Polyurethane this week, I was going to get it done this weekend.

Come to find out, the ants I thought were in the small hole of the main desk piece, yep, termites!

So I will be taking those pieces of plywood down to the landfill in a few hours, and using the piece I got of my neighbor who just moved.

The goal for the long weekend:

Get everything done and put together!!

Hopefully there will be other pictures to come.

There are some surprises I have in store for all of you. ;)

Sadly the desk is only 24" depth by 48" in length.

I am making this fit the space I need.

Maybe one day I will be able to make a bigger desk.

Sadly I had to redo the desk and riser flat pieces, they are infested with termites!!

I started laying the poly today. (9/8/2020)

ya i was in a gite mood haha ya we do the best with what we have. regardless imo building something your self is way better then buying it even if it dosent looks as good.  i just got a sit/ standing desk still have to dissasible my desk and move the other in there. it was around $500 got the desk top damaged off amazon for $40 and got the electric legs for about $410 im going to need to find something to prop up my monitor thow. have to play around with height as well like 99% of them are 28-30 inches my keyboard sits at 26ich now but it might be better for my posture as my right wrist gos thru a lot. gripping a box cutter in the day and holding a mouse at night.

I have dyslexia plz be kind to me. dont like my post dont read it or respond thx

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I got the desk assembled last night in the garage! YAY for small steps.

Now I have to take apart my computer setup and disassemble the old desk.

Just have to get the cable management pieces attached after I get the new desk into place.

Sorry it has taken me so long, and have this thread drag out.

Here are the latest photos from last night.
