4K 144hz + and 40+ inch suggestion

Hello all

With the upcoming of RTX 3000 series, I will update my 1080ti as soon as the 3080ti is available. With that I want to upgrade my monitor too.

Right now I have a ultrawide asus rog 37in 100hz. I want to go 4k, 144hz or more and it need to be big, like 40inches or more because I have a hugh desk computer and the 37in ultrawide is small on the desk (see pic).

I also have a I7-7700k oc at 5ghz. I may need to upgrade too, Will do if needed.

 

What are your suggestion? Anything under 2000$ canadian?

and also you need to upgrade your CPU. Go with the ryzen 9 3900xt or i9 10990k because it seems you have a lot of bread to spare and also how are you using that mouse on a glass table?

I'd hold off on upgrading the CPU until you notice it's actually a problem. The 7700k is still a capable CPU, plus you have it overlcocked. Moving from 1440p (I assume) ultrawide to 2160p will only push the performance bottleneck more towards the GPU (as in I don't expect to hit 4k 120 Hz in AAA games at max settings still), but who knows maybe I'm wrong). It also depends a lot on what games you play. It'll be more of a bottleneck in CPU bound games than balanced or GPU bound games.

 

The BFGD monitors sound in your ballpark: 4k 120 Hz and 43" big. I don't think there are any other type of large monitors that have 4k 120+ Hz refresh rate at the moment.

 

Side note, consider how far away you are from the monitor. It is subjective of course, but I'm using my old 43" 4k TV as a monitor at 60 cm distance currently and I actually find it a bit too big for gaming that way, because I can't see everything at once. That's just personal preference though.

I'd wait to see what the 3000 series cards can do. Right now it takes dual 2080 Tis to hit 4K @ 144fps. The 3000 series cards will obviously have more power, but based on what's been leaked, I still don't think you're getting there with even a 3090.

Monitor is about a meter away from me. So right now I'm always pulling it closer. That is why I want it bigger. And yes Right now its 1440p ultrawide, so 4k standard wont be much more pixel, except I want higher frame rate.

i9 10900k is it realy needed since I'm only gaming. No video editing and rarely CAD. i7-10700k should be fine?

It actually still is quite a jump. WQHD is 3440x1440 = 4,953,600 pixels. 4K is 3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels. That's still a 67% increase, versus the 100% increase over standard 1440p. In other words, it's still a ton of additional pixels to drive.

Ah yeah, 43" sounds good at 1m away.

 

Don't underestimate the amount of pixels compared to ultra wide though!

^ This. It's quite a jump to 4k. Even a 2080 Ti SLI can hit 120+ FPS only in a handful of games so far, so it'll probably still require 3080 Ti SLI to comfortably hit 120+ FPS in graphically intensive AAA titles.

 

I'm also a big fan of 120 Hz though and even on desktop prefer it over 60.

I would honestly just stick with your 7700k for now. You can always upgrade it later if you notice it's strongly holding you back.

It's worth mentioning that DLSS on the Nvidia cards goes a long way towards enabling "4K gaming". It's not true 4K as you're still running 1440p or 1080p, but the 4K upscaling is almost good enough that you wouldn't know the difference, especially with DLSS 3.0. The caveat is that not all games support DLSS, but for those that do, you can basically get the 4K at 144fps experience you're looking for running at only 1440p or even 1080p, which obviously puts a lot less stress on the card.

This is literally your best option since you have that budget.

That was a very good option, but.. it is cancel in Canada

Not a lot of option so far. Only Asus ROG PG43UQ

Well LG will send CX 48 to Canada finally in november. I just pre-order one. Thanks all for the suggestion. All the comments and the reviews I have watch confirm what you guys told me.

 

Now if only I can find a RTX 3090!!
