4K Display for 1440p Gaming?

I am looking to upgrade my main monitor to 4K. I use my computer 1/3 for gaming and 2/3 for work. I want 4K for work, but don't plan to upgrade my 2070, so 4K gaming is probably off the table.

 

Question: is playing games at 1440p on a 4K screen something that shouldn't even be considered, or is it fine? I know in the past it was basically a sin to ever run a monitor at anything other than its native resolution.

 

2nd Question, what are some good 4K 32" screens? Not looking for super premium, but would like respectable specs.

it's fine, though it'll be annoying to alt tab from fullscreen games, borderless fullscreen should be fine tho

I'll be honest, playing games at 1440p on a 2160p display... isn't bad. The pixel density is generally high enough for it to just look soft and not necessarily wrong when scaled correctly. That being said, if a game has a resolution scale built in, it would be worth using that while having the final output set to 2160p.

I didn't think about ALT+TAB, that is actually something I do a lot and use seamless window mode specifically for rapid response. I guess I will not be able to do that anymore. I have been on the fence about moving to a duel monitor setup anyway, that might be what pushes me that direction.

 

The comment about native resolution was just because everything tends to a look fuzzy when you do that...but I am thinking about running 480p on a 1080p screen. Maybe the effect is minimal when going from 1440p to 4k.

from my experience it works amazing in some games and a little glitchy in others. I played all of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order in 1440p and it looked amazing on my 4k tv. I do the same with FFXV and Sekiro. However, some games have given me issues. If i try to do 1440p with DS3 it limits the frame rate to 30fps for some reason. If the game looks soft you can just add a little bit of sharpening with Nvidia Control Panel or AMD Catalyst.

i do 1440p on a 4k screen everyday, it's fine, though not because 1440p is better, just need gpus to catch up still. I play in windowed though, 1440p full screen on a 4k display can be blurry since it's no longer native.

It depends on the monitor.

 

My old 28" TN monitors did 1440p very well but my 32" VA monitor is not good at it at all.

 

I now use an LG OLED TV as a 4k monitor and it is perfect at 1440p.

It is sort of shocking.
