AMD R5 340x on XP?

I got this Dell Dimension 2300. Decided to start using it as an old programs machine. Played some Half-Life, but HL2 ran like crap. Yeah, no shit. It’s got pretty good specs, but the GPU is GARBAGE. Now, I have an old AMD R5 340x on my newer but still crap PC. While it won’t get me far with new games, it sure will with this old PC. So can I install it alright? Can I get all drivers to work? Thanks!

Perfect! Can’t wait to play HL2 the way GabeN intended.

Could you actually give me the link for the driver? Can't find it.

Do I click on Windows 10 32-Bit?

All evidence suggests the posted driver packages are NOT compatible with Windows XP. The farthest they go back is W7 officially.

Are you able to install it?

I mean, I guess. I found the link on AMD’s website. It’s Win 7 32 Bit, right? Or do you mean physical install? Yeah, I can do that just fine.

I thought you were installing it on a Windows XP build. If it says W7, then I wouldn't expect it to work, and certainly not anything above that.

I’m installing this on an old Windows XP computer. What driver do I need to install?

I don't see a driver available for Windows XP. The lowest is Windows 7, so it's not supported.

Oh, that sucks. Is there another way? I still wanna try it. Like, this video says that you can get it to work with some tweaking.

Based on this TechPowerUp post, you would need to find Catalyst 14.4 as that was the last driver for Windows XP for this card.

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-r5-340x-oem.c2820

I found this link on Guru3D: https://www.guru3d.com/download/amd-catalyst-14-4-whql-(14-100-april-17)-download/

TechPowerUp claims that 14.4 is compatible with both Windows XP and Windows 8, so even though Guru3D doesn't list Windows XP as a compatible OS, it does list Windows 8, so the driver package on Guru3D might work.

Perfect! I’ll get installing, and say the results.
