I agree with Delons. I have my adblock disabled for every site except sites with those really anoying popup ads that fallow you around when you scroll, sites that have inappropriate ads, and sites that just spam you with ads.

How about neither? Support content creators, surely those ads don't take up too much or your time or are too annoying. If you don't want the ads, just don't use the site.

You have the ability to disable Adblock on certain websites that you want to support. Ads can be an issue on some crappier websites that you are forced to visit for some reason. ;)

I'd get whichever you want, aren't they both free anyways?

If you have a problem with the ads, don't visit the site. How many times have ads really bothered you?

Didn't you read my post? I did say "some crappier websites that you are forced to visit for some reason" ..  example, websites that I visit for game information that are full of ads, but that provide the content that I need. If you don't have that problem, good for you, obviously it's not the same for everyone.

I understand what you mean, it's cool if you want to support the websites by watching their ads, but that doesn't help the author with his quesiton.

I just use Adblock and i love it.

The argument that if you dont like their ads, dont go to their site is dumb. I also dont want the malware infected ads that google provides if i search for something and i spend a lot of time on youtube so "unskipable" ads make my blood boil

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

Or you could just get adblock and disable it on sites you'd like to support so you don't get bombarded with advertisement everytime you click any given video on youtube or other annoying as shit advertisements that some websites like for some reason.

Adblock Plus for me.

Yap, best one, you can even disable social network buttons and the likes.

If you have a problem with the ads, don't visit the site. How many times have ads really bothered you?

100% of the time. And Linus is kinda overshooting the ads on the "non-sub" portal.

Adds ruin the aesthetics of basically anything as they do not fit the picture, most of the time somewhat moving pictures / flash animations that do actually distract. [Also speaking from a cognitive psychology point, they distract and therefore lower focus and productivity / increase task completion times]. More reasons for ad block? ^^

AdBlock plus. I set an exception to the LTT forum. That's my "contribution", since i don't like the contributer models offered in the store. :P

Well, you can either have ads or no site at all.

In this thread, ABP shows 10 blocked ads. In this thread alone. Linus is getting greedy. Youtube ads, preroll ads, and sometimes ads right in the middle of a video. It's getting too much.

And well, by the looks of it, I am having both =P

Bottom line is people will do what they want and what they feel would make their browsing experience better. Its good to point out content creators rely on ads to survive and continue pushing good content to the viewers, but if people don't want to see ads you can't do anything to stop them from doing so.

Its good enough that your letting them know.

Your arguments have been very good so far and I'd agree with most of them but the only reason I have advertisement blocking software in the first place is for websites like Pirate Bay (for Linux Distributions of course- I buy all my software). The Pirate Bay, if you don't know already, spams the user with tons of Pornographic Advertisements. For users like myself that have people around me when I browse the web and do things on my computer, I don't want to have porn all over my computer when they are around (I don't do it when they aren't around either, mind you).

Quite frankly, I don't really want to support PirateBay as to a large portion of their content is illegal to download anyways. For every other website however, I have my advertisement blocking software disabled. The creator of those websites (with spammy advertisements or not) put a lot of work into the webpage so I will give them my two cents (no pun intended) for them giving me the information I wanted.

I keep adblock on, if I like the content, I turn it off. The only exception so far has been Cyanide & Happiness because they have a tendency of having very loud autoplay with no way of muting them.

I watch hundreds of youtube videos a day (That "outside" place is scary). It gets really annoying whenever you watch the same ads twenty times in a row and you aren't allowed to skip them.

I like the subtle ads like reddit has. They don't intrude on what you're viewing. They don't stop you from watching / reading something.

I also like the one on the LTT forum on the sidebar that doesn't intrude on you're viewing. The post that said where there is 10 ads on this thread alone was a bit too much. If every thread had a little sidebar or whatever for one or two of the more non-intrusive ads like on the front page than I'd have no problem with disabling adblock on sites.

Ads on videos kind of make it "paid content" in a sort of way. Unless you use something to get rid of it (for games it would be torrenting them) then you can't get past them.

ABP shows 10 blocked elements. This includes each of the ads it may switch between and social media trackers and so on. Not 10 individual ad spots.

AdBlock Plus. Pay per click - you won't get anything from me there any way, pay per impressions - I don't wan't something to mess with my subconsciousness, that just makes me more biased than I already am. But I really hate when ads slow down sites and distracts from content. And I understand that I am taking money away from site owner. If I'll want to support and the ads are not very intrusive then I'll turn ad block of for that site.

I use adblock at work as I work in an educational facility, and i might need to get a ISO image of TPB in the middle of a classroom, without adblock kids would be exposed to what is essentially pornography. that being said, adblock plus
