Filing patents takes lawyers and lawyers are expensive.  Not very for a huge company like Sony though.  Might happen I suppose.  I’d say under 50%.  How far I don’t know.

I think most big businesses like Sony have buckets of patents they never use, so you never know.

True.  There is more than one.  I don’t know how many more.  My memory is companies often file hundreds of patents at once with vast numbers of variation some of which won’t work just to keep other companies away.  I don’t know how many actual patents about this were filed.  Determining the likelihood of it being a fencing patent might be done by comparing how many and what kind of patents were filed to previous fencing and non fencing patents.

I eventually gave in. Whitelisting for sites that i frequent and i trust, but for many sites i block everything and donate as patrons or to live streams or buying merch.

 

Linus i know has said in the past that even small donations likely will end up as more money to the creator than adblock would take away from them. Same with something like YoutubeRed.

 

Its a shame that a bunch of assholes ruined something that helped make the internet what it is today. But there are too many tracking cookies, cryptominers, fingerprinters now days to justify me not using adblock. aloing with httpseverywhere, decentraleyes, and a few other plugins, and 2 pihole for good measure. (skipping google services like search and map unless needed too)

Honestly it doesn't even look plausible as tell me a VR headset where the field of view is so large there is anywhere to put adverts in "the corners"?  Oh wait, VR doesn't HAVE corners, its not a square box.

If PSVR2 has a FOV so wide it can fit adverts, rather than feeling like you are wearing binoculars, then that would be an insane improvement.

We are talking about Sony and PSVR here. If you take a dictionary and look under the word "substandard" you will find example "PSVR was so substandard it didn't even compete in it's own price range" For real, people were hyping that the real VR headsets were coming and finally Google Cardboard and whatever mobile shit were going to get to see their real place when finally Oculus breaks out Rift and HTC brings out Vive and then there was Sony PSVR... With screen resolution smaller than the resolution of the screen for one eye in the competition, no support for room-scale and even standing is not recommended, Move was still not that great motion tracking system (damn glowing adult toys) and the hopes for content were not high and that would be $399. Like they weren't even competing against Samsungs Gear VR with those specs and it was still $300 more.

 

So, I wouldn't really be surprised if Sony was to come out with PSVR2 which would be basicly TV duct-taped to your head showing only ads and costs as much as the PS5 and Sony would be hyping it to the sun and back because the TV is 4K.

PSVR is fine, its actually MUCH easier for sitting down VR than on PC.

When all I wanted to do is try out Project Cars 2 in VR and couldn't figure out how to get Rift S to play nice when sat in a chair.  Its obviously doable, but PSVR "just works", which is the point.  I've probably spent more time re-launching VR games to get them to work on PC than actually playing them. (although this was just after Rift S launched and was still kinda buggy)

It also showed me that it was worth investing in a Rift S, although my room is barely big enough for minimal room scale.  I punched the TV once which was seriously scary and a lesson in "don't have forward in VR be where your TV is, even if it feels like it should be".

I'd be very surprised if PSVR2 isn't at LEAST as good as Rift S but without the hassle of PC VR.
