Motherboard that supports 3200mhz ram

3 minutes ago, -_ThatGuy_- said:

What combo would you recommend ? @mbntr

Something like a 3100 and a B450, the 3100 has more threads than your cpu and overall better performance, the combo will cost about 200 USD

Main PC [The Rig of Theseus]:

CPU: i5-8600K @ 5.0 GHz | GPU: GTX 1660 | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic | PSU: Corsair RM 650i | SSD: Corsair MP510 480 GB |  HDD: 2x 6 TB WD Red| Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Secondary PC [Why did I bother]:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3000G | GPU: Vega 3 iGPU | RAM: 8 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Corsair 88R | PSU: Corsair VS 650 | SSD: WD Green M.2 SATA 120 GB | Motherboard: MSI A320M-A PRO MAX | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Server [Solution in search of a problem]:

Model: HP DL360e Gen8 | CPU: 1x Xeon E5-2430L v1 | RAM: 12 GB DDR3 1066 MHz | SSD: Kingston A400 120 GB | OS: VMware ESXi 7

Server 2 electric boogaloo [A waste of electricity]:

Model: intel NUC NUC5CPYH | CPU: Celeron N3050 | RAM: 2GB DDR3L 1600 MHz | SSD: Kingston UV400 120 GB | OS: Debian Bullseye

Laptop:

Model: ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 AMD | CPU: Ryzen 7 4700U | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz | OS: Windows 11 Pro

Photography:

Cameras:

Full Frame digital: Sony α7

APS-C digital: Sony α100

Medium Format Film: Kodak Junior SIX-20

35mm Film:

Lenses:

Sony SAL-1870 18-70mm ƒ/3.5-5.6

Sony SAL-75300 75-300mm ƒ/4.5-5.6

Meike MK-50mm ƒ/1.7

PSA: No, I didn't waste all that money on computers, (except the main one) my server cost $40, the intel NUC was my old PC (although then it had 8GB of ram, I gave the bigger stick of ram to a person who really needed it), my laptop is used and the second PC is really cheap.

I like tinkering with computers and have a personal hatred towards phones and everything they represent (I daily drive an iPhone 7, or a 6, depends on which one works that day)

Yeah that's just your cpu not being up to the task and getting a new motherboard for your current i5 7400 will do exactly nothing for your performance problem.

I'd adivse what Haro suggested. Wait for Zen 3 or look at AMD's options if you need a pc NOW. Spending money at the platform makes zero sense.

Yes but as many have said. Your cpu will maybe if lucky get a 2% performance boost for getting a new motherboard to handle 3200mhz memory. It just does not matter how fast your ram can go as your cpu just doesn't rely on fast ram to work better. So for spending maybe 200$ on a board you may if lucky get 1fps more. That is why we are suggestion you upgrade what does matter. Your cpu and for that we recommend ryzen as even their current cheapest option the ryzen 3100 beats the best possible cpu you could get for your current motherboard whilst being cheaper.

That's because your limited by your cpu. Ram speeds won't change much.

@TofuHaroto Idk why but my gpu won't go above 75% usage even if it can. And I get an average of 40 fps and 29-30ish fps when I'm near a lot of grass and trees .(on high and very high settings)

What "upgradability". Zen 3 is probably going to be the last lineup of AM4 CPUs. If he is only gaming I don't see him needing to go higher than an 8 core CPU if anything 6 would suffice as well. The power delivery would be fine and the VRM temps be totally ok for up to an 8 core.

Yes that is because if you check your cpu it will be at 100%. This means that it is just not able to handle anything extra thus it cannot send enough data to your gpu. This is why your gpu is running at around 75% because your cpu just cannot keep up.

Day 1 the Max boards from MSI have the updated bios.......

In fact its the sole reason those boards exist.

@-_ThatGuy_- getting a new board to support a higher memmory speed will solve nothing sadly.

By as I said getting a new motherboard. A ryzen 3100 + a msi b450 max board (any of them will do) will be plenty. If the 3300x is within lets say 10$ of the 3100 get that one.

You get a board + CPU.

You had 270$ to spend, no?

Depending on wether or not you need memmory withing that budget, you could get a 3600 + board at that price.

edit: nvm it was cad. You can almost get a 3100 + board.

Isn't 3600x better than 3100 and 3300x?(sorry I'm not very keen on amd cpus) Cause I can get a motherboard and a cpu because I didn't bought the ram yet ( I currently have a patriot 8gbs 2133mhz) @jaslion

Is your current ram 2x4gb? Ryzen does love faster ram and pretty much needs it in dual channel but if you cannot afford new ram you can temporarily use what you have.

Don't get the 3600x it's barely any better than a 3600 but a lot more expensive you won't notice the difference anyways. For games the 3600 is a bit better and it also is nice to have if you do anything else whilst gaming as it has the extra cores and threads for it. If pure gaming a 3100 or 3300x will do.

Any msi max board from the b450 or b550 series is a good choice to pair any of those cpu's with.

There are sadly no offerings within you specified budget it seems.

Good offerings anyways. The b450 auros elite isnt a great board.

Can allways add USB C through an add-in card if need be.

I dont recommend it, but it would mean stepping up to this:

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/7HjNnQ/gigabyte-b550-aorus-elite-atx-am4-motherboard-b550-aorus-elite

But that wouldnt allow you to get ram + CPU + board at the specified budget.

The Pro-VDH linked earlier would be sufficient.
