needing a cheap sound card because my onboard actually sucks

hoggydoggy

I'm using a sorta old lenovo motherboard and I find things very quiet and not great quality, I actually get better sound quality from my S3.

I simply need a sound card for £20 ≈ $30 or less. just something which will work and give me better audio quality.

what I mean by bad audio quality is all sounds sound very hollow and at max volume is what I would consider low-medium sound level

Check if you have a PCI-Slot for the Xonar DG. Otherwise you'll need a Xonar DGX (essentially the same card, but with PCI-E Connector)

  • Primary PC: i7-3770K@4,6GHz | Thermalright Macho | ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 | 16 GB Corsair Vengeance@1866MHz | 2x Gigabyte 660ti 3GB@1130MHz | 256 GB Samsung 840 | WD Black 1TB | BeQuiet! DarkPower Pro 650W | Zalman Z11
  • Secondary PC: i7-860@3,1GHz | Scythe Katana 3 | ASUS Maximus III Formula P55 | 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz | 2x Zotac GTX 280@650MHz | WD Velociraptor 500GB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB | BeQuiet! DarkPower Pro 750W | Coolermaster Cosmos S

I'm running a Xonar DG. It solved most of my audio issues, and it didn't cost too much. If your onboard is really bad (or really hiss-y) I can recommend it.

Please check that you have a PCI slot for it, as Hyrikan said :)
