My Ryzen 5 3600 which I ordered off Amazon came in an EBay package and had definetly been opened.

The package also arrived over a week later than it was supposed to. Anyone know what I should do? I haven’t opened the Ryzen box yet but it looks like it was just resealed. I can see through the side window that there is the correct cpu inside.

You might have purchased it from a third party seller on Amazon who also sells on Ebay.

Do you know if it was actually purchased new and was shipped and sold by Amazon?

You can go to your Order details to double check. Otherwise I would contact Amazon.

I’m out of the house right now but I’m 75% sure it was from amazon directly, I’ll check the order when I get back.

Al right

Ah so turns out it was from a company called “Electo Super Prix Inc.” (which sounds like the sketchiest thing of all time) but that would explain it.

If you go all the way to the Order Details it should also specify if it was supposed to be new or used.

Usually CPU packaging has a security tape on them to show if they were tampered or not. IF this seal was tampered with, consider to be used and according to their listing of new, I would send it back/contact Amazon as previously suggested. Selling a product as new and getting something that has been played with is fraud. I do not know if the CPU was messed with and I would not want someone else's crap but CPU's are pretty tough to kill. If it's too good to be true, don't buy it.

If it is what you ordered, there is no visible damage and it works, don't worry. Small businesses may reuse old boxes and other packing products to save money, this I have seen many times, even a store I use to work for did this, sometimes the boxes were cut and made smaller so shipping could be cheaper.

Just in case the seller has poor packaging skills, take a photo of the package.

↑ This.

Selling a used product as new is fraud.

Sure, it's a CPU and is unlikely to be broken. But it doesn't change that if it's not what you bought(new product), you should send it back and request a new product.

This is also the reason why I record myself opening packages of expensive stuff I order online. That way I at least have a "proof" that it was like that when I got it.

Damage caused by static electricity due to improper handling can manifest itself much later, upto several years. So if you plan to keep it for a long time I'd try to get it refunded and get a new one.

If it used, you should have paid a used price for it.  Whether you did or not is not clear.

Whether it works or not is not the issue.  Why should you pay full price for a second hand peice of merchandise is the issue.

If you wanted to buy second hand, you could, and you could have done cheaper. There is a reason you buy 'new'.

Just like what I said, why pay new price when you got something used....the difference in price could have been used to buy a better graphics card or a bigger SSD etc. Some people are on a budget when it comes to building a computer and if you pay the new price, you get something new in return. If you neglect contacting Amazon that this third party seller is sending "New" condition products should be stopped, its quite disheartening, and you're letting them continue to fraud people by not taking any actions against said company.

The E-Bay packaging is because you bought from a marketplace reseller who ( probably) also sells the stuff over E-Bay

If it works I would not care

unless you’re someone who really cares about manufacturer warranty and really wants to buy a brand new unopened product

if it was at least relatively cheap and works flawlessly just use it

i have a bit the feeling that the amazon marketplace has been flooded with trash since it’s introduction
