Brand new Asus PN60 mini-PC overheating

Go to solution Solved by JayEee,

Its been running solid now for hours, I think the 2.5" SSD was not plugged in properly and was only connected by a few pins, causing it to heat up. Or the SSD is faulty, need to test it on another PC.

I bought an Asus PN60 today and it's been working fine for hours.

All of a sudden it BSOD'd with CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
When I rebooted it, a POST message displayed saying "CPU temperature overheated" or something like that.
The Temp in the BIOS was 70c which seems fine.
Touching the top of the unit - it was quite hot.
I was just playing a 720p video
Now whenever I boot up, it continues to show that BSOD and then restarts back into the BIOS. The Temp is now at 62c.

I have the latest BIOS installed (0807)
The unit is on a flat desk.
BIOS settings are default

Maybe the thermal paste on the CPU has dried up?

70 c in the BIOS screen is insanity. Is the Dan running or is it dead?

hmm it now has a new BSOD
BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

Hmm I think it may be the fan, I tapped the top of the unit and the fan started blasting away.
I guess the fan cable is not connected properly. I'll open it up and check it.

BIOS temp is now 62c, fan is running.

had a 2.5" SSD plugged in and it was getting super hot, it almost burnt my skin
So ive removed it now
I'll let it run overnight, hopefully it doesnt BSOD again.
The M.2 drive is also super hot but I think that is normal. Its a Samsung/Toshiba drive THNSNJ512G8NY

I think you have a doa unit then. It's all just not supposed to do that at all.
