For the ram  i've found this one Ct16g4rfd4266 a 16 gb reg-ecc 2666MHz but i can't find anywhere if the b550 motherboard will support it. Asus so far wasn't helpful  by saying to check for the QVL  certified memory.

So any way for someone to check out which ecc ram is supported for the b550 motherboard?

the OS will be unraid with 5x 10TB ironwolf (zpool with 3 disks and 2 parity) and a ssd raid  with 2 x crucial MX500 1TB (cache)

Thanks for your help.

ECC on am4 in general is kinda iffy, with it often working in non ecc mode, and not good support. If you need ecc support, get a fully qualifed board.

Also for the build, id look into just running windows if you want to game on it, and go a file share on windows aswell. Or have a seprate nas box.

Id probably replace those ironwolf pros with exos. There cheaper(12tb exos is cheaper tha 10tb ironwolf pro) and better in basically all ways(its a datacenter rated drive)

That RAM you found is Registered?

To use Registered ECC memory, you would need to go EPYC.

Ryzen only supports Unbuffered ECC memory.

it's a registred ecc ram

could you suggest me one unbuffered ecc ram?

i've got 2x 10 TB already that i'm going to include in this build. I'll look a my vender (in switzerland for those drives).

This build is inspired on 2 builds made by Linus here

If you want (and need) to use ECC on AM4, go for a board that's actually ECC certified, like ASUS' WS X570-ACE.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC

Id probably run it all on windows. Much easier to setup than having to deal with unraid, and you don't seem to have a second gpu needed for passthough. You can do basically the same raid and file sharing on windows.

That board would make me over my budget, unfortunately.

Well, in a way this would be better to acquired but i'm limited by my budget. only the Epyc CPU + motherboard would take more than half of my budget.

I've found some RAM, Crucial CT16G4WFD8266, that's unbuffered ECC stick  and it should be compatible with the motherboard that I have selected.

what do you guys think about this?.
