Cpu Fan Upgrade or Case Fan Upgrade

_sirhC_
Go to solution Solved by _sirhC_,

Hey,so after you guys recommending it to me I ordered the arctic cooler 34 esport duo and its way better than expected. I am currently at 3.9ghz at 1.25V stable and when both the GPU and CPU being stress tested and heat is being pumped my temps are very very good. My CPU never goes above 65C , GPU(70-75C). While the fans do have a bit of sound , not much but noticable(with headphones off). It performs perfectly so i recommend it if anyone is looking for a budget option.

So thanks guys for helping me out.

@Stahlmann98 @TVwazhere @HairlessMonkeyBoy

Hey, so i have a the following setup:

CPU:Ryzen 5 1600 @3.6ghz 1.2V

GPU:Sapphire Nitro+ rx 580 4gb

RAM:3000mhz Corsair

Case:Thermaltake case with 2 fans ( 1 front 1 back)

Ambient temps: 22-25C

Stress test:

CPU - Aida64 for 15min (without FPU)

GPU -Unity Haven

My problem is, I have OC-d the CPU a bit and undervolted it to 1.2V and if only the CPU is being stressed than it peaks at around 77-80C. If i stress the GPU alone it peaks at 70-75C. The problem is that if I play something that demands both GPU and CPU or  stress  them both than the CPU goes to 85+C which according to AMD should be fine (not good but fine).I am using the stock AMD Cooler that I got. My case fans are however some no name brand that I got with my case.Their max RPM is 1000rpm.1 is at the front 1 is at the back (intake, exhaust).

So i was wondering should I buy 2 new case fans or should I buy a better cooler for my CPU.What bothers me the most is that others report way better temps for the CPU with higher voltage with stock coolers. So i dont know whether my case fans ruin everything or the CPU cooler is dying on me.

Probably you should add an intake fan to the side and bottom.

The case doesn't look like it has very good airflow, unfortunately.

Its like 5-6 years old. The oldest part of the build.

Due to where the front fan is positioned, replacing the fans wouldn't do much. Adding two fans to the top and bottom would likely help with some CPU cooling, but your best bet is likely a 120mm air cooler. The case is ventilated enough in the front to work well for your system.

An upgraded CPU cooler will give you the biggest jump at first. Maybe consider the Hyper 212 Evo (~30-40$) for a budget but good performing option. You don't have terribly power hungry components so your case setup should suffice. Just get a better cooler.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yeah, i realized that it has bad airflow.I plan to upgrade in the future but cant right now for a few more month.

You mean a 120mm CPU cooler or a case fan?

Alright, thank you. I will buy it than as soon as possible.Does this fit into the case or did you just link a good budget option?Roughly how much of an improvement can i expect from this? Is there any way to measure it?Because after researching aftermarket coolers most of the discussions conclude that if u want to OC you buy a new cooler , if you dont OC or just a little than the stock will suffice.

Air cooler.

Depending on what's avaialble in your area, the 212 evo is the baseline standard that most coolers compare themselves to. The 212 black edition is the newest one (there's an RGB version as well) as well as the Artic Freezer 33 and 34 Esport ONE and Cryorig H7 coolers.

Alright,i will look into it than. Is there any way that i can measure how much of an improvement will it give? Because as i have mentioned before most of the discussions say that there isnt much of an improvement between these entry level coolers and stock ones.

I can personally confirm there's a noticeable difference between a stock cooler and an aftermarket cooler (both on the R5 1600 and 2600), especially in "worst case" scenario situations where both CPU and GPU are dumping heat, as the air tower cooler is more efficient at not only keeping the CPU cool, but pushing the hot air in directions that allow it to be exhaled out of the case (out the rear fan)

Okay thank you. I will look into buying one of those than i think. Either the 212 evo or the arctic 34 esport duo.

Sadly i can't find any height clearance spec for your case but the 212 Evo should fit in most cases. There will be a noticeable difference even if you don't OC. I'd guess he aftermarket cooler will lower your temps by 10-20°C under load but of course your experience will vary quite a bit depending on your ambient temp, etc... The cooler will stay much quieter while also offering lower temps. But like you already said, the stock coolers from AMD are generally "fine" and won't lead to overheating. It can get warm, but still in spec.
