m.2 Phone storage upgrade idea...

I was just watching the latest video on YouTube of the 8TB M.2 SSD and thought man that's about as small as my phone (length wise). Then I thought maybe there's a way to connect one of them to a phone in a molded case maybe with a small extended battery to supply some extra power too since w'd be making the phone thicker and it'd be a good trade-off. The only problem is, I have no idea how to do any of it and just thought it would be a cool idea that might have the potential to make it onto the market like the Mophie cases but better cause it's an easy "DIY" to drop the drive in yourself and sell the drive separately to keep the cost down, maybe even could be a recycling thing like I bought a 250gb for a main drive but wanted more so I replaced it with a 2tb, well I can take that 250gb and put it in my phone as extra mobile storage with this case, and then I've got more picture and video storage on the go.

it is for me currently however, it would be awesome to see something that can have variable capacity, cheap if you already have storage and be hot swapped like large SD cards in a standard camera that way you can transfer them easily to a computer for editing or have multiple small cards and one or two large ones for a big event like a wedding that is going to have a lot more photos and videos.

Eh. No. Just no. The SSD would use about as much power as the phone's display. So you'd need a massive battery, and even then you'd see massive power draw.

On top of that, I just can't think of a situation where you'd need anywhere near that amount of space on a phone...if anything, just buy a microSD card, the proper solution.

Well if it can't make it to market I'd like to at least see an episode on how much storage can be connected to an android device

Plus it's on a PCIE connection, do arm chips even have the capability for that?

It should be possible to connect an SSD to a phone via USB. But of course you would need a M.2 to USB adapter and it would be limited to USB 2.0 or 3.0 speed depending on the phone.

I don't know how big drives Android supports but at least 2TB should work fine.
