Does the b450 "work" with no issues with the 3700X

Im new to pc hardware and i was just looking at the offers and saw the b450 at a good price and a ryzen 7 3700x but in pc parts picker it says to update the bios and that would require an old cpu.

The Z series motherboards are for Intel

You must mean the X470 boards. Most of those will ship with 3000 ready on the box and wont need the update for the processor.

To be sure, ask the retailer if the board is 3000 ready before you purchase it.

Hope this helps!

Same rule of thumb applies. It will say 3000 ready on the box, that's what you want. Ask the retailer to be sure before you purchase.

Depends on the motherboard really.

But generally b450 works well with the 3700x,  but 3900x would be pushing it.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Most of them ( if the stock is new ) are ready to support the AGESA code for zen 2 out tod the box

But which b450 board are you considering ?

Same thing applies on the B450 boards. If you are buying from a retail store, You will be able to tell before you buy it by the box saying "Ryzen 3000 Desktop Ready". If it says "Ryzen 2000 Desktop Ready", you will need to update the bios or have the store do it for you. If you purchase it online, its "sight unseen" for lack of a better term, unless you can contact the buyer to ask. Most retailers will do the bios update at no charge if you buy it through them, otherwise they may charge a small fee if purchased elsewhere, or if you are not comfortable doing it yourself.

CPU: Ryzen 7 3800X GPU: Reference 5700XT (Asus) Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X470-F RAM: Corsair 32GB Vengeance 3600Mhz PSU: Corsair RM850X White

It's decent

Look for the tomhawk max or the mortar max

These do indefinitely support zen 2 out of the box

That's what the max stands for

You should be fine, even if the bios is not on the latest MSI has usb bios flashback. In theory this should work even without a cpu in the socket.

You just put the latest bios on a flash drive and press the bios flash button on the back of the board and it should update it.(with power to the motherboard of course)

Depends on the board tho, b450 is just chipset, not power delivery and all that.
