What ram sticks from what I have are the best for me?

Hello there!

I have the laptop HP NOTEBOOK ELITEBOOK 840 g1 https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03961746

(u can read about the memory a little down there in the page)

In my laptop I have one samsung 1600mhz 8gb, but I think I might get more performance from dual channel, I have many sticks around but what I have in my hands now are those:

The ram that came with the laptop:

The 2 ram sticks I also have:

I also have a 2gb 1333 that I tried putting together with the ram I had already but I got a bios error. (I'd love to learn why did it happen) maybe the laptop only accepts identical ram sticks?  I guess I will put the 2 identical ram sticks cuze they are for sure, comptible and good dual channel is probably the best even if it is a little slow.

anyway, should I put one of the 4 gb with the 8 or the two 4gb together? (8gb is enough for now) I just wanna place minecraft in class u know and the laptop does feel slow sometimes, I just need the best performence.

make sure there is an additional slot

make sure its ddr3 or ddr3l use something like hwinfo64 to check (1.35 ddr3l, 1.5 ddr3)

With the Samsung one you can add another stick for 16GB if you need it in the future.

ASint is generic and at the era of DDR2-DDR3 some generic kits had high failure rates.

Also the Samsung may have the lifetime warranty that every big manufacturer typically had at the time for RAM.

God, apparently it's too hard or it makes too much sense to google for some text written on the ram, like for example m471b1g73qh0-yk0 ... one of the first results is this : M471B1G73QH0-YK0 - Samsung 1x 8GB DDR3-1600 SODIMM PC3L-12800S Dual Rank x8 Module

So that tells you that stick of memory is DDR3L running at 1.35v , and that it's dual rank 1600 Mhz stick.

Literally ANY DDR3L memory stick that's dual rank should work with that Samsung stick.  Ideally, you'd add a second 8 GB for a total capacity of 16 GB.

Let's see results on newegg because it's easy to filter  8GB per Module, DDR3/3L 1600, DDR3/3L 1866, Newegg, Laptop Memory, Memory, Components - Newegg.com

Search results still include some DDR3 sticks, but you can tell the DDR3L by the PC3L notation in the title or description or by the voltage 1.35v

Some DDR3L 1600 Mhz sticks :

Crucial 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model CT102464BF160B - Newegg.com

Patriot Signature Line 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model PSD38G1600L2S - Newegg.com

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C9S-8GRSL - Newegg.com

Crucial 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model CT102464BF160B - Newegg.com

Kingston 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model KVR16LS11/8 - Newegg.com

Yeah I read about it shortly after posting ma post. Seems like i can only use the 8gb I have. (I didn't mean to buy anything just to ask what ram should I put.)

Didn't understand the point of ddr3l yet... Is it really saving that much battery?

Well, if your laptop idles in Windows at 10 watts and 1.5v ram consumes 2w while 1.35v ram consumes 1.5w ... that's a 5% power saving.  These are bogus numbers.. in reality the savings are probably something like 0.1..0.3w, maybe even less ... but any savings on parts that are always on matter.

It's also about being able to lower the voltages inside the processor (because the memory controller inside cpu would also have to run at 1.5v to "talk" to ram), and reduce heat produced and so on...

And still somehow my laptop has maybe 1 hour of battery and if using the amd gpu it has the battery is going down like SPEED 5 minutes. Don't feel like it helps too much lol.
