What language is Windows based on?

Just curious. If possible, I want to try to find the source code and learn from it.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

C, you're not going to find much code besides what people have been able to reverse engineer.

We use almost entirely C, C++, and C# for Windows. Some areas of code are hand tuned/hand written assembly.

Pretty sure the source code isn't legally obtainable.

As mentioned you are not finding the windows source code. But you can easily get the code for Linux and learn from that. There are even book out there to walk you  through the code to understand how everything works.

Yeah definitely not going to get access to that source code. But its written in assembler/C/C++. More recently you'll probably find parts of it are possibly C# now as well.
