Did not realise that there were different kinds. If anyone can ...

Brass, silver or metal? I thought brass and silver were metals. My whole life is a lie!

I'm currently using chopsticks to eat chips without getting my fingers greasy. Works well with other finger foods as well.

Chopsticks work better then fork for some things.  They are also great for grabbing pasta from boiling pot to check firmness.  Stabbing macaroni in pot of water with fork isn't happening, spoon brings boiling water with pasta.  Chopsticks used to stir pot can grab single item out of liquid and cool by waving around before testing.  Same tool can stir, grab. whip, ect, and most are safe with non-stick pans.

For chopsticks still being around after fork.  That is backwards, fork was known in china before chopsticks invented.  Use of fork was mostly abandoned in asia when Europe was still eating off of knives.  Odds are higher west will abandon fork before asia stops using chopsticks.

Chopsticks just always made me wonder why they are still in use, when a knife, fork and spoon exists. But I am probably just too casual to understand.

I was dating a Chinese born girl and made a similar comment once, it kicked off a fight of World War proportions that ended in her insisting that i may as well liquefy all of my meals and consume them with a feeding tube because that is also more efficient lol

Apparently dementia and death is waiting for anyone who is too lazy to make the effort to eat their food with chopsticks because their mind will turn to mush as a result of not being challenged while eating, we didn't date for much longer after that.

Ah yes, chopsticks.

The equivalent of playing Monopoly but only with yourself.

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

To me it is an inefficient form of eating food. Even using my fingers is more efficient.

Remind me to serve you hotpot and film you trying to eat hotpot with your bare hands

Chopsticks are still used because in Asian culture, we have main dishes that's shared by everyone, so being able to reach to the center of the table is a plus

Though nowadays my family has serving spoons because hygiene

Knowing how to use chopsticks also has the benefit of being able to have cutlery in the middle of the jungle if you forgot yours, since it's literally two pieces of twigs

Useful for cooking and what not.

Chopsticks are also more delicate so you can feel the firmness of the food to judge cookness and also decorate stuffs in details

I think it's something worthwhile to learn to use, I prefer to use chopsticks for some dishes, while using fork and spoon for others

I learnt to use chopsticks quite late into the game, so my preference is still fork and spoon for the majority of dishes

Edit: also, fuck stainless steel chopsticks in particular, not enough friction to grab onto anything, and makes noodles bukkake all over my face and shirt >:c

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

🤨 bit late for that reply. My opinion hasn't changed since I wrote that, just so you know.

After 12yrs in the military and other influential non-military exposure... I can find better ways for me to eat without using chopsticks or sticks but if I really have to use sticks, I can use them last resort.

But that said I always have one of these in my bag, the Kabar hobo-tool, I also keep one in my car and use it when in the road.

For eating, yea you can use your hands

For cooking though, chopsticks are better than nothing I suppose

There's something about eating ramen with fork and spoon that makes it a sin

Hm. I always knew I was a sinner, so I guess I'll just add this to the pile.

I personally have fully rounded ones. One pair is smooth, another has grooves on the tips for noodles. I also have 2 pairs of long chopsticks for cooking.
I am personally not big fan of metal chopsticks, but they are great in Korean restaurants where you need to BBQ the meat by yourself or in 焼肉 establishments which are quite similar to Korean restaurants.
