Posted May 30, 2020 Many laptop processors use BGA sockets. These are soldered CPUs onto the logic boards that cannot be replaced easily by a user. It is best to just buy a new laptop unless you have the expensive equipment to replace the processor yourself and is not worth it. Posted May 30, 2020 Even if you can, it wouldn't make sense. I mean the best thing you can get is a 4c/4t version and they are so old it's still very slow. I would just ditch it. The A6-5350m uses socket FS1 which is exclusively available as a soldered BGA style socket. Replacing it requires multiple thousand dollar re-balling equiptment. EDIT: I misinterpreted the information I found. Also another response was posted that very clearly proves me wrong. All processors after it use bga. FS1 is not exclusively bga

Allow me to make up for my incorrect post with additional information. Here is a list of CPUs that will fit into your laptop's socket. However I would stick to the list of officially supported CPU's on HP's website, especially considering that your laptop could have hardware locking or something, you can never really be sure. Posted May 30, 2020 I have found a few sources saying it is technically compatible with the AMD A8-5550M but if its possible for an end user to upgrade to it is a different matter. Besides, the AMD A8-5550M is not all that powerful compared to any modern cpu. It might be wiser to just upgrade to a new laptop than to try and re use this old one. However if you are willing to spend a few bucks and try, they are available on ebay for around 20$(just make sure you buy one that has the pin grid array). You would probably also need to find the correct drivers to use the cpu. All i can say is best of luck. Posted May 30, 2020 Although above anything else, if your computer is using magnetic storage, I would put your money towards an SSD. Posted May 30, 2020 This is what is officially supported : https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c03769521 Anything else may work if it's for that socket AND with the maximum TDP (if all supported processors are maximum 35w TDP for example, a processor with higher TDP is unlikely to work well) Yeah, a SATA SSD will help boost the laptop's performance significantly. Posted May 30, 2020 Even with a proper CPU socket, there’s no telling how difficult it will be to access. There may be a panel to access it, or you may have to disassemble the entire thing. Done it before myself. Tbh though, unless you find a compatible quad core CPU for very cheap, I don’t think their Piledriver architecture to be worth investing in.
