What does "The Director" do?

I've noticed in more recent videos, there's now a "Director" credit besides the host, writer, editor, shooter, etc..placed at the very top.

 

It's often the same as the writer...haven't paid close enough attention to see if sometimes there's a difference.

 

What is this new role in the workflow of videos? @LinusTech

Obviously I don't work for LTT, but if I had to guess I'd say it's an attempt to decentralize timeline management for different videos. From my recollection of a video on their video production pipeline they had Edzel as a production manager making sure videos were on schedule, but given they aren't in the office now it would be much more work for one person to keep tabs on all their projects.

That likely just means the writer is watching the shoot and is there to correct anything they don't like.

In previous workflow videos, the writer has been identified as basicly doing that already.

Is the director credit just to formalize the extra work beyond specifically "writing"?

(I'm just curious if there was a change in workflow vs change in labeling)

Its bit odd that you would choose to call that person "director" instead of "producer". But I'm guessing its that way since its writer monitoring shoot and not person who will handle whole process from first pitch to release candidate.

I'd assume so. Well online creators tend to fall in a weird place legally so you maybe able to claim it as like a TV show which often do get credits
