My Desires have been extinguished - Leaks for HTC's first punch hole phone

It seems like HTC still has more upcoming phones to annouces, this time a more budget oriented product by the name HTC Desire 20 Pro. The benchmarks seems to suggest that the phone is designed as a mid range device.

Quote

HTC has not completely fallen off the face of the Earth - @evleaks just shared a schematic of the HTC Desire 20 Pro design and its code name, “Bayamo”. When it is officially unveiled, this will become the first HTC phone with a punch hole camera. That said, the phone doesn’t give into other modern trends and keeps its display flat. And if this schematic is accurate, the bezels will be pleasantly thin (even more impressive is that side and top/bottom bezels are actually even for a change).

gsmarena_001.jpg

The quad camera on the back reminds us of Oppo’s Reno3 phones, which have a similar two-level camera island with a dual LED flash off to the side. The smallest lens at the bottom is most likely a depth sensor while the function of the other three is anyone’s guess. Notice the rear-mounted fingerprint reader – this is a mid-range device and it keeps things basic. Including the chipset, a Geekbench result points to a Snapdragon 660 (or 665), which was connected to 6GB of RAM and was ran Android 10. It’s not seen on the schematics, but one leakster claims that the HTC Desire 20 Pro will have a 3.5mm headphone jack. We’re not sure how all this aligns with the new CEO’s plans to target high GDP markets, but we’d enjoy seeing a new HTC model all the same.

Thoughts: Unless the price is dirt cheap, there's no way anyone would buy a phone whose specs look like they came out a year and a half ago as a mid-range phone. Well, at least it has a headphone jack.

So HTC went back to the jack huh? They're back on my buy list.

Honestly the reason I ditched HTC after the One M9 and got an S8+ (and now an S10+) was because of the jack.

The specs are one thing, but if it runs good and has decent battery then it matters little. Hell, even most performance benchmarks are BS because they tweak their OS to recognize when benchmark software is running, so not like there's much of a tangible difference currently anyway.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Bring back bezels, fuck holepunches and notches.

I'd rather have bezels like the Pixel 2 (non-XL) than a fugly holepunch or notch.

If it costs more than $200, Xiaomi will just laugh it off. Already I see the rear mounted fingerprint sensor which means no OLED screen. Looking to be an incredibly generic device.

All modern phones are either super generic, super expensive, or slightly less generic "gaming" phones.

The only exceptions are folding phones, but I guess those fall into the "super expensive" category.

yep, the same one every year.

until a phone comes with an actual new feature, I don't think any new phone is much more than an incremental performance increase.   more pixels, more battery, more Ghz.

I miss when HTC made good phones (one x, one m8). I can't even buy this phone if I wanted to because of a patent dispute.

I think the addition of multiple cameras and lenses was a big innovation in the phone market.

I certainly have gained a lot of extra functionality from it, and won't go back to a single-lens phone anytime soon.

Admittedly I haven't used the S10+'s zoomed telephoto camera all that much, but the Wide angle lens has already come in handy in more than one instance (Christmas Family gatherings!).

I guess it depends on what you do. I've used it on tree three specific occasions and then for a handful of pictures.

1) On my trip to Japan, it was super handy. We saw a lot of animals while there, and you usually didn't want to get too close to them. So using the telephoto instead of walking up to for example monkeys was really useful.

2) I've been to a few conferences, and it's really useful to be able to zoom in and take high quality pictures of the power point slides they have up on the scene. Text tend to be really blurry if you use digital zoom, and you can't really walk up to the stage and take a picture. You're stuck in your seat.

3) Portrait shows looks way better with telephoto lenses. For those wondering what the difference focal lengths looks like, here are some examples. For those wondering, the Galaxy S10 which I have has a 26mm main camera, and 52mm telephoto camera (the "zoom" camera). I think it's pretty obvious that the 50mm picture looks better than the 24mm one.
