Conflicting Numbers Related To Wattage for Gaming Build

Greetings all.

System builder for many years.

 

Attempting to calculate the wattage for a new gaming build.

 

I have a ryzen 5 2600

and an MSI Geforce 1660 Super (one, no sli)

1 SSD

1 7200rpm HD

Asus B450 Tomahawk motherboard.

 

I purchased  a 750watt psu to go with it.

 

When I googled the parts, The wattage says 450watts and 370watts just for the video card and cpu.

Yet when I used the cooler master watt calculator recommended by linus in his wattage video, the numbers are much lower.

 

When I use MSI's power calculator I get different numbers entirely.

 

This puts me well over spec.

 

Currently have a Rosewill 750watt psu but have not hooked up yet. Machine not yet built. Don't want to risk shorting out. Do I need an upgrade?

You'd be fine with a 450w and up PSU.

However not only the wattage but also the PSU's quailty are important,

Check our the PSU Tier list here on the forum and decide on a PSU through it.

For a system like yours anything over B+ would be ideal. Keep in mind not all PSU lines are equally good.

psu calculators arent always right as there are so many factors that need to be put in.  750w is more then enough for your build heck even a 450w would be fine

pSu CaLcUlAtOrS are useless and overestimate by a ton. The 1660 is a 120W GPU, so expect the system to draw about 200W under a gaming load. You would be much better off getting a decent 450W PSU. Important part is that it's decent. What model PSU did you get?

Both the 450 and the 370 are full-system power, so they both take into account both CPU and GPU. In reality the R5 consumes at most 100W and the 1660S at most around 200, so any decent PSU above 450W or so (to give a bit of extra headroom) should be fine.

Just ignore PSU calculators.

If you want to know the power consumption, look at reviews that test the CPU and GPU, all the other components are negligible.

I have a new ROSEWILL ARC 750watt psu at the moment. I dont see it listed on the psu tier. Good enough?
