Need Advice - Best Place for Deals on Used Parts? Price Point?

I am in need of some advice!

Me and my girlfriend are getting stuck in a long distance situation due to covid, and I would like to try and put together a budget gaming PC for her so that we can stay connected.

I'm wondering two things:

1) What is a good source for used parts? Ebay? Other forums?

2) In the used market, what gpu and cpu/motherboard provide a good value right now for playing modern games in medium/low settings at 60fps/1080p?

Im hoping to keep this under $500

Hey there. I'm assuming you live in the U.S.? If so:

  1. Try eBay, Craigslist, and FaceBook Marketplace for used parts.
  2. What "modern" games do you plan on running? Generally speaking, the GTX 1660 Super and the RX 580 are decent, but I'm not sure whether the used market has much of it in stock.

It really depends where you live to be honest. Some countries are much better than others for used parts.

 

If I was looking at your budget, I'd probably start with a Dell Precision T1700 (get one with an E3-1270v3 or better), and a 1050Ti. Get an older 900p monitor and you should be able to get a pretty good experience (I'm assuming you need a monitor and peripherals).

If it's CAD you may have to get creative and look for local offers, classified ads and such.

Also, with the Dell T1700, there's a SFF version and a full size version. You want the full size one.
