Should I buy the samsung tab S6 or wait for the S7?

PointFive

I have been looking for a tablet as a device i can use to easily type my spreadsheets, word, make power points, and some occasional photo editing. Currently I am most interested in the Samsung tab S6, but since it has been launched august last year, I am afraid that the S7 will launch in the near future (S5e was launched in April, S6 was launched in August).

But another dilema is in the current world situation where the pandemic has ruined the economy, I am afraid that the S7 launch might be delayed even further.

What should I do?

Or if there is any replacements with similar spec will be appreciated. Budget will be around the same price as a Tab s6 + keyboard cover.

Thanks

Theoretically, yes. But if pen and keyboard included in my country the surface will be more around US$340 more expensive.  (Using pre-pandemic exchange rate)

EDIT: It is the i5, 8gb ram, and 128gb ssd

You should probably include your location then ;) Otherwise saying within the same price range is useless.

Get a Surface Pro / save for one.

You do not want to use a Mobile OS like Android for regular Office.

Mobile Version of these Apps have less features than the "full Desktop" version.

Besides, Windows is much much better for multitasking (because of Window management) than Android.

Besides, i personally would rather get an iPad over a Tab S6/7, just because of much longer updates, much better optimized OS, and much better optimized Apps.

Wouldn’t a laptop or iPad be better for that?

Tab S6 user here. Switched from Surface Pro 4 November last year.

Summary:

Get a 2 in 1 laptop over the Tab. Typing experience is lacking on samsung's keyboard cover.

Question:

Is there a specific reason why you need stylus support AND android?

Suggestion:

Previous gen Surface Pro 6 for productivity. iPad Pro if you are into drawing.

TBH I considered the same and I ended up buying a Tab S6, Theres also a real possibility there will not be a S7 because android tablets arent terribly popular

For me -personally- I wanted something that was media and gaming focused that could also do productivity things and messaging, something with a beefier battery and more endurance than my phone at the time (Razer Phone 2) and had more storage since installing games to microsd is sometimes hit or miss..

Overall? Im torn, I love it, its a great tablet, its VERY fast. But on the other hand the keyboard cover IS a bit meh to type on for serious stuff. Id still like it over a cheaper laptop due to just how gorgeous the display is..but if im looking at something like a higher end surface with a nice screen..I'd find the decision tougher

Add to that the fact that, in my case, several new games (like TFT) will not let you install them on it which makes no sense, but its getting clear to me that unfortunately, android tablets are on their way out

The biggest thing it seemed to do was i enjoyed using it so much I ended up buying a Note 10+ for xmas...Which looking back on it, if i had just done that in the first place I'd probably have found the Note 10+ did most of what I wanted out of the tablet and i could have instead thrown money into getting a laptop that doesnt suck instead for more "serious" work or for video watching when im not in my home theater and want more "oomph" than my phone

TLDR: Go for the surface for productivity in all honesty...

Inari - Ryzen 9 3900X, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master, 32gb Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR4-3400, eVGA RTX 3080 FTW3, Corsair Crystal 680X, 2x Corsair MP510 960gb SSD, 1x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD, 2x Toshiba 5TB HDDs, Acer Predator X27, Lots of Sony camera equipment

Asus RoG Zephyrus G15 5900HS/3070/QHD On Order

There's two additional things that I would like to get a confirmation of.

1) Try out Office online and with your workflow.

It can be tested on a browser although you do need a Office 365 subscription. Since Android doesn't allow you to open two word docs at the same time, you can't multitask well.

Try this for a week in your daily workflow.  Checkout the limitations.

2) What are you unhappy about photo editing on a phone?

Aside from a bigger screen, the experience is near identical because of the app ecosystem on Android. There aren't many tablet specific productivity apps on Android.

Honestly I'm torn as well. Right now I'm sitting in a cafe looking at cherry blossoms while writing this post on the Tab S6. I have my Bluetooth headphones hooked up listening to Spotify on my LTE connection. For light editing on the go, it's great. Beyond that... well you already know the answer.

Thank you so much for the response!

After looking at the comments and after more consideration I think I will save up and go with the surface. Since as some mentioned multitasking would be better and just the overall experience.
