I hear a motor on my right ear since like a week ago

MS-DOS

Its very subtle, but it has a vibrating feel to it, around 30hz or even less. It's as if someone was trying to park a van or something, and revs up and down the motor, but really far, like you live on a building on top, and some guy is trying to park this car. Like I said it's mega subtle, but I can "feel it". It doesn't help that with this coronavirus thing all the kids are inside making noises, and neighbours play music. Sometimes it's just that.

Ive tried to register on that tinnitustalk forum but those guys refuse to give me the confirmation email for some reason so im asking here. Has anyone had this bullshit before?

I've had high pitched tinnitus on my left ear for years now, got used to it. Most likely a sound card that failed while wearing headphones and emited a crazy loud sound did it, but this one is new. I use headphones at decently low level. Everytime I have something I look on the internet I just feel worse due everything always being possibly "you are about to die" tier so I just stop reading.

When I try to scratch out wax out of it (the right ear typically is the one i've had massive chunks of wax in the past coming out) a louder rumble starts happening.. so maybe it is eardrum localised and not some shit like brain aneurysm. Possibly ear infection? i use earbuds most of the day (not the ones that you insert inside, just regular ones).

I would rather not to go covid infected hospitals right now if possible, and most likely I will be told "that's tinnitus, nothing to do" assuming they don't see anything on the eardrum.

So yeah, has anyone had this? did it last forever basically? or it came and went?

I'm am amazed by the number of people who post in a computer forum asking for medical advice. 🙄 That's like going to a plumber for an electrical problem or an auto mechanic for lawn advice.

I understand that you are concerned about about possible exposure to Covid-19 but, if you are concerned enough, you still need to see a medical professional, NOT seek advice on a computer (or any other) forum. Try calling around to see if you can see a hearing specialist. It will cost more than a hospital but it will be safer and they will know far more about how to diagnose and treat you than anyone else.

This does sound familiar.  If it's what I'm thinking of, it's not "in your head" like tinnitus - the doctor will be able to actually see and theoretically could hear your eardrum moving because it's caused by a physical thing.   You'll need an actual professional to give anything better than that though :P

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Fuck me, why did I click on this thread.. Same issue, it drove me nuts going outside to check if a truck is passing by or wtf. At some point I must have completely forgotten(my brain probably learned to filter/ignore it) about it because it's been like 2 years since I've noticed it.. until I read your post 😑 I've never considered checking it with a doctor since I've never had any hearing issues. If you get diagnosed please leave a reply because I'm curious what could be the cause.

Shit sorry lol

But how loud is it for you? its barely audible for me, and I dont have hearing problems as far as I know. I haven't done a hearing test in ages tho, but I produce music and im familar with frequencies and I reckon its decent, which may be why I pick this sound even if its barely audible too.

Does it go up with heartrate? mine doesn't seem to mimick heartrate. At least not in the sense of 1:1 reacting to every heart beat, like its not in sync, its seem pretty fucking random. I can't hear it right now, maybe "feel it" sometimes. I can only hear it at night.

Yeah how amazing that im interested to see if other people had it and how they fixed it. I will go to the doctor obviously, but not until this peak wave is done, hospitals are collapsed, in the meantime I want to gather info on other people that had this and how it was fixed to ask doctors to do stuff, because chances are 99% of doctors don't do anything unless you really insist in cases like this from what i've read.

Can you clean your ear out proper instead of just digging?

Once upon a time the doc used some kind of warm water syringe on my ear and it worked waaaay better than a swab

Typically I just use my finger and then put it inside and bend it to create a sort of vacuum and push it out but i've read it can make it worse, I dont have any tools. Ive read docs have some sort of waterpik equivalent for ears.. if I put my finger on the ear vibration becomes worse for a while and it fades back to normal after a while.

Actually doctors just use waterpiks generally/ a syringe filled with warm water. If you have one you can set it on a low setting (with warm water in the chamber) and wash it out. Swabs will generally push the content farther into the canal.

Just the regular waterpik? even at lowest setting its pretty strong.. not sure how much sense doing this makes. Why wouldn't the water push crap further inside anyway?

Yeah it's usually not comfortable even when you use a syringe. The trick is to have your head parallel with the ground with the affected ear down and wash for like a full minute. The water doesn't push stuff farther inside becomes it comes in contact with your eardrum (provides a watertight seal from the middle ear), and eventually it will get flushed out.

yeah, i had a sympton like yours months ago, i wasn't sure if there were a helicopter hovering above my house or some road work is going on nearby, so i ride to a quiet park and find out it's my brain doing things.

i went to see an ENT doctor, and i was told it's a minor neuro misbehaviour, i took some cheap drug and within a day the noise disappeared.

why everybody post the spec of their rig here? i dont! cuz its made of mashed potatoes!

Im not doing to put the waterpik on my ear tbh. A doctor must do it. If I had something to actually see what im doing and see there is wax then it would make sense.

Sorry for the late reply, barely audible for me as well, completely random and doesn't go with hearth rate. Another thing that I think helped with not noticing it, is me getting a new PC some time ago with the damn Ryzen stock cooler that constantly changes rpm and creates audible static noise so idk.

I was amazed by the amount of bad advice being given out by non-medical personnel on that site. This is why I suggested the OP contact a hearing specialist, not a general practitioner.

I'm still amazed that the mods haven't shut this thread down like they usually do with threads like this.

So, because someone on a forum said his doctor told him he couldn't do anything, that means advice of random people on a tech forum is better???

Please, go see a specialist, get a second opinion if needed.

To be fair, it's very common for plumbers to have close ties to electricians.   So, they might know some basics or can refer you to an electrician.  XD

No, search on the internet about it, it's filled with experiences like that:

Never I said it's better to ask in a tech forum than visit an specialist, we are free to ask for experiences with this in an off-topic section. Thread opened.

You can use swabs soaked in alcohol. A dry cotton swab certainly can push it further back, but you'll have better luck if the wax/other stuff is dissolved into a liquid. With that said, you have to be careful as you can jam the cotton swab into your eardrum if you go that deep.

Correct. That's what I see on the packaging on cotton swabs - well specifically the manufacturer stating it.
