Pc wont power on

Bigbish1989

Hi all

I recently updated my b450 bios to the latest bios from msi website in order to install a r53600

My system was working fine this morning playing games ect.

I removed all cables, removed my 1500x and installed the 3600

The pc started but wouldnt post. Turned the pc off, unplugged all cables. Reinstalled my 1500x

Now the pc wont power on.

I have done a cmos reset

Checked everything is plugged in to psu and mobo

Tried a different cpu cooler

Tried removing on ram stick

Removed gpu

Still no power at all

The only thing which seems to indicate anythi g is my gpu is receiving power from the pcie port and the power lead. Gpu led changes from red to white when power lead in plugged back in

My next step will be a new psu. This one 11 months old ( evga 550w gold+)

Any other ideas ? Is my mobo screwed.

The whole system is 11 months old and up till today has ran perfectly.

B450 tomahawk

1500x

1070ti strix

Corsair vengance lpx 3000

Evga 550w

Damaged the CPU socket when you swapped out the CPU?

Well I have had a new CPU kill a good motherboard before which in turn killed the old cpu afterwards. I hope this will not be the case with your pc.

Do you have a speaker on the motherboard for beeping errors?

Did you reconnect the power button from the case?

Try shutting off the PSU and pull the cable, then hit the power button a couple of times to discharge the motherboard. Then plug the power cord back in and switch it back on.

Is the memory in the right slot (see users manual for the right slot)?

If the power button does not work, try shorting the pins on the header for the power button, should be in the bottom row, the middle on and the next one on the right.

Oh and check if the power cables on the motherboard are all the way in.

Any luck?

Just removed the 1500x

1 bent pin

So i go to install my 3600

Id put it back in the packaging back to front and bent 12 pins in total.

So i dont have a pc. The bios has been reset and both my cpus are ruined.

Hoping I havent damaged the socket as well. Any way of checking that ?

The thing is, i thought even with a faulty cpu i should be able to get into bios ?

Fuming is an understatement. Netflix on my smartphone tonight!

Wish id never bothered and kept my 1500x

Quick question for all

If I try and see this as a positive ( somehow)

What would I need to do to install a new mobo and cpu ?

Presumably if I just buy a b450 max with another 3600, I can plug it all in and do a fresh install of windows from a usb ?

How would my storage work ? Is it possible to boot using the old ones before wiping them, or am I looking at new storage as well ?

Maybe a 120gb ssd to install windows before all of this.

What a disaster, a lesson to anyone who rushes a cpu change.

Well I don't know what happened to your PC but if it only the mobo and/or CPU that is the issue then it is just the matter of replacing those. You should not even have to install Windows even if you change to another mobo vendor/chipset although it is recommended. Windows 10 should boot and install all drivers you need to load the OS.

A SSD to install Windows on is something that I recommend, my advice is a 240GB with DRAM cache but a 120 GB without the cache will do fine.

Now, I think what happened is that something went wrong during the BIOS upgrade. Please make a support ticket with MSI and see if they can offer any solution to a BIOS flash gone south. Also the CPU should be in warranty so check with your retailer and see if they can replace it under warranty if you think the CPU has problems. They should do so free of charge. Anywhoo, did you try to flash the BIOS again? You might get lucky and have that working.

Other than this, check CPU for any bent or broken pins. Good luck.
