Should I wait or buy a RX 5700 XT now?

Hi

I want to upgrade my PC in the next couple of months and I had the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT in mind but Nvidia announced the release of the 3000 series in June. My budget for the GPU is about 500 bucks. Should I wait or go with the RX 5700 XT? Nvidia is probably notgoing to release them on time so what do you think?

The parts I want to upgrade to:

Ryzen 7 3700x

32GB DDR4 3200Mhz RAM

MSI Tomahawk Max B450

EVGA SuperNOVA 550Watt

XPG 500GB Nvme SSD

Maybe Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT??

(Any recommendations for other parts?)

Thanks

I would wait because even the 2080ti can't push modern AAA at 144hz at 1440p res.

If you need the new system right now, go ahead.

But if you can wait, you should.

if you can wait then wait is not then buy what you want but be warned that AMD has been having issues with their drivers over the past few weeks. the current driver is 20.2.2

I would only game at 1080p and 144Hz. I play RainbowSixSiege, BF V, Apex and similar titles.

For AMD, their slides suggest Q4 2020, maybe even early 2021. I'd hope they try to catch the CP2077 hype and have "Big Navi" on shelves around its release.

For Nvidia, the rumor mill (?) is pointing to a June 2020 release for consumer RTX 3000 series. If you must go AMD, I wouldn't wait either.

I like Nvidias GPU's more so I always wanted to go with the RTX 2070 super but AMD had the edge with price to performance. I will try to wait for the RTX 3000 series.

I'm in the same boat where I'd probably like to wait until late 2020/early 2021, but I don't want to wait either, so I'm still buying a 5700XT. Maybe next year I'll still upgrade depending on the difference it makes, though I might not buy one until they've been out for a few months since new AMD GPUs often have driver issues that need fixing.

EDIT: I've ordered a Sapphire Nitro+ Special Edition, probably won't have it until after the weekend though.

How has the card been since you ordered it, any issues, are you happy with it etc?...

With the planet in pretty much lock down for many months at this point, every factory closed...no production of non essential goods basically anywhere...I don't see Nvidia launching a new gpu series ANY TIME SOON and as what is being on shelves now will be sold expect prices to go up SIGNIFICANTLY soon...so if you need a graphics card now hurry up and get one while there are still some models available at decent prices.

Really depends which games are you going to play but I would go with the 5700XT. It's pretty solid card for the price. I wouldn't tho pick up a 550W power supply. I would go with at least 650W.

I run mine on a Corsair rmx 550 watt just fine. A good power supply will be fine, a junk one will not

No cpu mobo or ram atm

2tb wd black gen 4 nvme

2tb seagate hdd

Corsair rm750x

Be quiet 500dx

Gigabyte m34wq 3440x1440

^Agreed. I have a 5700XT + i7-6700 one of my daily drivers is running off a 550W 80+ Gold PSU. That machine would be "lucky" to pull 400W from the wall even at full-tilt. Components are relatively efficient nowadays to the point that I hardly recommend going over 550W anymore. My primary daily driver is a 3700X + RTX 2070 Super, also on a 550W 80+ Gold PSU, which can barely broach 430W at full load, even though Nvidia recommends 650W minimum.

I know this is a bit late but it's been pretty solid. I have an issue where audio over HDMI sometimes cuts out briefly, but this only happens on my TV for some reason. It never used to happen when I had the Vega 64 or the 1070 Ti, but it also doesn't do it on anything except this TV.
