Old graphic card doesn’t boot

Hi, I am trying to build a system with a ryzen 1200 and a geforce 8800gt. My issue is that this graphic card doesn’t boot on that system. The system is trying to boot, but the gpu fan keep spinning at full speed. Do someone know if the geforce series 8 are compatible with ryzens cpu? I don’t really need the graphic power I just want that computer to host a media server and I had this card, cpu and mobo laying around. Thank you for your answer.

motherboard asus a320m-k

Ram 2x8gb ddr4

gpu geforce 8800gt

cpu ryzen 1200

There is no reason why it shoudn't work - As far as I know a GPU is a GPU.

With the fans of it spinning at full speed all the time I'd have to guess it's dead since it does nothing else BUT if you can test it in another system that will confirm it or let you know there is another problem.

If I had to guess, I'd say the card is so old that the motherboard doesn't really know what to do with it.

 

If you can, confirm the card is functional in another system.

The board probably tries UEFI boot, but the card is so old that it doesn't support UEFI.

You might want to turn off secure boot ot uefi boot in the bios and insert the 8800 then. That might make it work.

If the card is a bit too old for your motherboard, I'd try enabling legacy support for the graphics card in the bios
