Adding a fan to Fractal R6 - most effective position/fan type?

ColePfeiffer

I recently delidded my 8700k and while it was effective (4.9ghz @ 1.31v would hit 100c previously, now tops out at 82c with door closed. Front door open it hits about 75c) I'm still not happy with the temps I'm getting using the R6 stock 3 fans and a Noctua NH-D15.

I was thinking of getting a Noctua 140mm NF-A14 PWM and using it as my rear exhaust, and moving the stock Fractal fan from there to become a bottom intake.

Does anyone have an estimate of what kind of improvements I could see with this setup, or a better option?

I've just ordered a 140mm Noctua Redux to replace my AF120 at the front of my case.

I have a Fractal GP-120 exhaust already so now I will have two 140s and one 120. Plus a spare 120.

I am thinking of moving the spare 120 to suck in from under the case and blow onto the GPU.

I have a Nano S case.

So you think having the lower speed fan as exhaust is best?

Personally I always ensure two things for air cooled setups.

1. Intake CFM is greater than exhaust

2. CPU cooling fan speed is dictated by CPU temps.

The rest of the fans just need to move air through the system at an acceptable level of noise, while giving positive pressure.

Why not set the top to intake and stick 3 fans up there, you would probably see a noticeable improvement if you go that route as opposed to a single on the bottom
