The concept would be similar but instead of novec, 99% isopropyl alcohol would be used.

Let me know how it goes, but this is a really bad idea for a quite a few reason

Isopropyl alcohol is a solvent and extremely flammable. Might as well use gasoline if you have a death wish.

With out repeating others before.

This would not be a smart move. You are quite literally asking for trouble.

Dont! Its a extremely competent solvent (thats why we clean TIM with it) and will solve some of the plastics and glue etc inside the components and the case. Secondly the vapor is highly flammable. So a PC with it could cause a spark and then (due to it being under pressure in a container) BOOOOOM!

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 6 months later...

The same idea came to me while I was googling for alternative liquids with similar or better heat conductivity compared to water but electrically nonconductive. I saw the same novec video before but I'm not sure I can find it here. So I thought maybe alcohol would also keep parts clean and shiny :D However you are right, it might end up cathastrophic, maybe even with 2nd or 3rd degree burns... It looks like the other option is Ethylene glycol but it looks too viscous...

Pure Alcohol as mentioned above is extremely dangerous for this use.

Ethylene Glycol (or engine coolant) is "safe" to use, But it is a bit toxic to handle incorrectly. The best substance to use is Distilled Water for cooling PC's. Please stick with that.
