Which do you use?

54 members have voted

  1. 1. Do you use Wifi or Ethernet on your daily machine?

Hopefully I'm doing this poll thing right.

Curious how many people use wireless vs wired. I use wired on my daily computer (the one on my profile) but don't use much in the way of laptops anymore, so my wireless use is limited to my tablet. In fact in order to use Ethernet, I have to run a 50 foot cable (which I happened to get a 50 foot section of CAT6A for free :D )

So what do you use?

Even though I have a gaming pc hooked up via ethernet, I voted for wifi because I identify as the kid in the commercial linked below.

I love using Ethernet, I find that it is slightly faster than WiFi, and it has less interference then a standard Wifi connection. If you are considering switching, I would definitely recommend it.

I'm stuck with Wifi due to space issues.

Router is in a main room, haven't yet been able to tear open the walls to run a Cat5 or 6 connection.

I originally used WiFi when my old desktop had Windows 7, but the WiFi card I had didn't work under Windows 10, so I ended up on Ethernet at the end of the day.

I used to be you, then I asked the question if 100ft was enough.

Now my question is how could this long of a cable be $15 on prime day.

If anything, I would just grab a spool of Cat6e, a bunch of plugs, and a few tools.

Wifi is great and all if you don't want wires... Or if you're on a portable device. But on a stationary desktop? Ethernet all the way.

I use Wi-Fi.  The router is upstairs, so it is cleaner to not run a wire down.  I haven't had a problem with it.  I am using 5 gHz.  I've considered trying powerline ethernet, but my house was built in 1885, so I have some concerns about the quality of the wiring.

Wifi is more than enough for most of my daily stuff, but for the main PC, NAS, LB and son's PC's I have Gb lan.

My main rig, as well as most of my stationary devices with Ethernet ports (desktops and game consoles) I have hardwired with Cat6a on a gigabit router, switch and powerline Ethernet adapter. I have dedicated WiFi access points, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, that everything else is on (laptops, phones, tablets, eReaders, and handheld game systems).

I have wired Ethernet, so I can wire my desktop and also laptop when using it at my desk.

The WiFi I have is decent, but just not as reliable and fast as Ethernet.

10 gb wired on my desktop (and server) to get the full out of my internet, and internal transfers.

wireless on all laptops, i do however wire ALL devices that are in place, like tv´s and other elements, even though i do have a really nice unifi network, i do feel that wired just gives me more stability, and the ability to work with 4K HDR streaming in house. since plex does not really like tonemapping and therefor i need to play the files from my bluray´s without transcoding.
