Is my monitor gonna be g-sync compatible with my graphics card?

Hello,

 

I’m currently in the process of my first pc build. I was set on an RTX 2070 Super for my graphics card. However I’ve already gotten my monitor which is an aw2518hf, Alienware 240hz free sync monitor(still in the box). I read an article saying that this monitor is now g-sync compatible with all GTX 10-series or newer. Does this mean the monitor will not be g-sync compatible with a 2070 super? If not, is there an AMD card that is similar in performance and price to the 2070 super?

Yes, it is compatible as the RTX 2070 Super is newer than the 10-series.

It is, but the 2070 super is a RTX card, not a GTX. I’m really not sure what the difference is between those 2

Tensor cores. Ray-tracing in supported games, some machine learning stuff if you're a workstation user. G-Sync panels still work fine with them.

Ok that’s good to know. However my question is, will free sync work with the 2070 super? Because I have the free sync panel version, not the g-sync

Yep, don't see why it wouldn't. There's two main differences between the RTX cards and GTX ones: they're all on the Turing arch (though there are Turing GTX cards), and most importantly, they all have tensor cores for ray-tracing and such (Turing based GTX cards do not). Other than that they work the same, support all the same features, one of which is working with FreeSync.
