While carrying around more adapters than is necessary might be OK for some, I'm not going to accept that a manufacturer has decided for me that I apparently don't need an SD card reader built into my laptop when it's absolutely physically feasible for them to include it during the design of the product.

 

For this reason alone, I cannot buy a 13" MacBook Pro or XPS 13, no matter how much I'd love to have either machine for on-location photo shoots. (That being said, there's going to come a time where I crawl back under a rock, because no laptop or phone will have the ports I need on a daily basis.)

Ironically I think by the time SD card slots will be rare most camera work will be moved to SSDs.

I said footprint not sceen size. The screensize is the same. But the bezels around it make the device larger.

USB C is expensive. I remember some case factor video (probably Gamers nexus) stated that USB C was a few extra dollars to add to cases.

I can't imagine its any cheaper on phones.

 

I think it matters what space, for video I'd love to see 2.5in or a version of m.2 become standard. Red mags are mSata which also wouldn't be bad.

Combine whatever drive with a metal enclosure or buy them pre assembled.

Photo I think SD cards will stay. Pictures just don't need the speed of video.
