You think the court case was "he upset my feelings"? Not "he accused me of money fraud, now I cannot get a rental car/flat deposit insurance".

The comedian was charged with infringing his right to freedom of expression. Read the article. There was never any defamation claim in the article or court case.

He publicly, joked about the persons disability, repeatedly. I wonder if they could just do a like for like ruling, and put the comedian on British TV Gameshows (but 2 wrongs don't make a right).

 

I really really don't bother to discuss many of these things with people. As the main error, is, they forget, life and society, people and reality, goes both ways. Just wait if some big popular/power wielding person (boss/teacher/counselor/comedian) spreads some "joke" about you having it off with someone and/or stealing from the stock cupboard, and how your bonus talks go with your next performance meeting at work etc.

 

Society has realities. I wonder if the comedian realised them too?

There was never a defamation claim, nor charges of damages to be reimbursed, just an infringement of his right to freedom of expression. Which makes no sense. No one ever claimed he had lost privileges or had any amount of financial harm done. I have no idea what point you think you're trying to make with the rest of that argument.

 

In defamation cases if you're suing for financial compensation there's some form of record required to ensure that the victim isn't put out, and that includes losing your job. None of that happened in this instance and no financial compensation is necessary.

 

Your argument about bosses is stupid. You're not entitled to a bonus or a raise, even if it was held back over a tasteless joke. Maybe your boss just finds your shampoo offensive and so he doesn't give you a raise. You didn't "lose" anything financially because you didn't have it to begin with.

I have two daughter age 8 and 14. And i cannot express how much fear i have over what the world will be like for them when they get my age. Im just hoping i can do enough to counter act society to not let them fall into the victim trap.

We're teaching people to be more tolerant of those over things they have no control over like sexuality, gender identity and visible disorders rather than reducing these things down to just "a joke", how terrible.

I treat everyone equal. Meaning i pick fun of them all the same. Its called joking.

 

If someone wants to make jokes about me because i am a hairy man...fair game.

If someone wants to make jokes about my wife being an irish new yorker...fair game.

If i want to make jokes about someones gender identity...fair game.

 

If you want people treated equally then you have to be ok with making jokes to everyone. Thats being equal.

 

I bet the dude in this lawsuit has no problem when the comedian makes a joke about trump, clinton, cosby, etc. 

 

When making jokes everythings fair game or none of it is.

 

People just need to learn that a joke is a joke. Dont take everything so serious.

Not everyone is affected by gluten in the same way, yet it's still being stripped out of food for an inferior product for non-existent health reason for people who don't have that issue.

It wasnt fun when i spent 23 months in prison. But its not offensive to me when my buddies make jokes about dropping the soap. 

 

It wasnt fun when my wife was in a coma after a car wreck. But i can still make jokes to her about her big boobs being the thing that saved her life.

 

Because they are jokes.

I'm actually on a restricted diet that removed gluten from my diet entirely, so the whole "gluten free" trend is nice for me because it means I get more food! Including some I haven't had since 1999, like oatmeal and cereals like Chex.

Okay. Everyone in my group of friends told me to kill myself on a near daily basis. My sister tried to castrate me, my family has told me to kill myself as well. Boo Hoo.
