I wanted to start a topic on this (mainly a poll), since for the past 2-4 months, the video style/dynamic has changed.  It use to be more refined scripted and polished, now they feel, "that is good enough, let's go with that".  The latest instance where I can refer this to is the ending of Scrapyard wars 8 part 3.  I browsed the comments, on floatplane, and there were comments that ranged from, this is the best scrapyard wars yet, to, is that the last episode and it was hard to follow who was playing what.  I may be way off mark, but I feel that you are trying to work out where to put your merch call out over the quality of the video.  I have a suggestion, and it does not require the ones on camera to say anything, you all are wearing the merch pretty much all the time, you can strategically place a LTT water bottle somewhere that will naturally be within the shot and sometime during post, just do what you are already doing by popping up a store pop up in the video.

 

I said a whole lot more than I originally planned, I know there are going to be those here that will disagree with me and there will be those that agree with me.  I am not trying to start a flame on this subject, I would appreciate if we can let the poll speak for itself, and not have any war on this.

Oh yeah they have definitely changed. They used to be a good channel to get information from about products but now it's all showboating catering to Youtube's algorithm and wow factor media. Not my cup of tea anymore but I'm glad the forum remains

I watch maybe 1 out of 10 videos they upload and 50% of the ones i do watch i feel like they were pointless/not worth it.

They lately feel like commercials. If you go through their history, more than half of their videos are just sponsored advertisements masquerading as reviews or impressions.

 

I definitely miss being able to trust his opinions, but you simply can't anymore when more than half of their content is bought and paid for by their sponsors.

Well, a few things.

1. the large majority of people who are going to click on this forum and vote are people like you, who arent happy with the direction of the channel.

 

2. The christmas/black friday season is when companies are throwing out their marketing/advertising money. as a business LTT probably make more money in the two months leading up to Christmas than the previous 6 months.

 

3. judging by the view counts lately on the LTT channel which are way up, any one complaining and making a big thing will just be a vocal minority no matter what these poll results say.

 

If you don't like it. Just don't watch. It's literally 10 minutes a day. I'm sure you can find something to entertain you that 10 minutes

Don't get all that defensive. It is people's opinion, and people are allowed to talk about that and how they feel. No one denies the success of LTT now. However, it is silly no to say that the channel is way different compared to what it used to be for well over a year. Change is always sad for some people, I include myself on that.

The reality is that video content for enthusiasts (in any field) is going to be low numbers stuff.  there just aren't enough enthusiasts out there who want specific content delivered in an in depth information first way to maintain a channel.  That's why all the big channels are entertainment first, easy answer or simple technology information second and detailed in depth content last if at all.   It's not really the channels fault, it's just what they have to do to remain functional.

Yes, they have changed for good or for worse. I'd say they have evolved though. From a production standpoint they have massively improved over the years. Their content has been readjusted for a broader audience and that leads to some unhappy folks who liked the old style. They don't really have a choice though. You have to constantly change in order to remain relevant and interesting especially when you're one of the top channels in a given category. 

I've played WoW for many years and the same has happened there in the course of years - the game has changed and adapted to broader audience again to remain relevant and interesting because face it - no one is gonna play exactly the same thing over and over again for years and be excited about it.

 

I don't like the new expansions really, I didn't say they made it right, I said they had to do something different.

 

Same goes with youtube channels. I've followed some for years and the same thing has happened there, but you can't blame them, they are trying to evolve. It is a business after all. Those who stayed the same lost it after a while and their channels died...

 

Change is inevitable for one's survival, however careful one must be how change they interpret.

 

Fans like it to be stuck in a phase they enjoy, but in reality with successful channels/products it's always a constant transition between phases. If they were to be stuck for real, fans wouldn't like it forever. You only realize this when it happens and then it's even worse when they refuse to change in order to remain relevant and then perish. Gone they are, instead they could've been not exactly everyone's good ol' days thing but still out there and kickin'.
