How do YOU update your drivers?

I've hard iobit has a poor reputation. But their "driver booster" software seems pretty nice to have, no?

I just update my GPU drivers occasionally straight through Radeon settings and update other drivers really only if stuff stops working.

I only update my chipset and GPU drivers (or the rare case of their being a security flaw in another driver). I do so via the manufacturer's website.

Third party software always looks so shady.

I don't recommend it, let windows do the work for you. Or you can manually download from the manufacture's website and then install it.

The only cenario that i recommend those kind of software is when there is no Manufacture's website and windows couldn't find the right driver.

Is driver easy any different? Why need a program to update drivers. Always do it manually. Even windows update is ***(beep) drivers up.

Sorry misread that.. Delete that shiz. You can use official checker programs from AMD, intel and so on. or just check driver versions manually

i just go to amd.com  and click on support / drivers

 

Download video drivers maybe once every 2-3 months or if a recently released game crashes on me and i remember to check for new drivers.

Checking for new chipset drivers maybe once every few months.

 

If the chipset is old chances are they'll get very few updates or improvements so not worth updating if everything works fine.

Same for video cards... I have a RX 570... whatever they update in new drivers, it's high chance it's mostly fixes for the newer generations of cards so updating wouldn't benefit me (except if a newly released game has issues and AMD makes some hot fix / beta driver that gets it working)

If you have an Asrock or MSI mobo, I know they have utilities that scans for updated drivers. Dell systems have similar. 

 

If not those, then I usually do manual installs as needed. Typically on new systems it is more or less a one time thing after OS install. Chipset and any devices. Peripherals with associated companion software often has a feature to check for updates. The exception here is for AMD systems. Especially given how new Zen 2 is, there are still frequent bios AND chipset driver updates to resolve ongoing issues with them.

 

For Intel based laptops, their driver update utility can come in handy as there are occasional networking/wifi/bluetooth updates. I don't bother with this on desktops.

 

GPU driver is about the only one I check and update somewhat regularly.

I actually don't. If Windows update does it, then sure. But usually I install once and touch only when I have some issues. This goes with GPU drivers too. I don't play newest games so there aren't really any reason to update.

If I'm manually updating the driver, I just download the installer and let it do its thing. The actual driver file names are the same between versions, so updating replaces the files with newer ones.

 

Otherwise I let Windows do its thing or don't care. There's no need to update drivers if everything's working fine.
