Ryzen motherboard with x8/x8 with full Nvme functionality?

Looking for a board to support the following:

1) A pcie 3.0 GTX1070 or other modern gpu

2) A pcie 3.0 x8 RAID card

3) full speed x4 Nvme capability

Ryzen has enough lanes to do this, but i am having trouble finding a board that has this pci-e distribution. On most, the second x16 physical slot is a x4 electrical slot, hardwired. On some, the second x16 physical slot is disabled when you use the m.2 slot.

I dont need any sata ports and i dont need a second m.2 slot.

Many boards even disable the second pci-e entirely if you use the nvme m1 slot

Most x series boards can do this, but a few low end boards won't split the x16 from the cpu.

Something like the X570 Taichi or the Primte x570 pro will do this easily.

Ask yourself:

  • Do you really need ~8GB/sec performance out of your RAID card? (probably not; what are you using it for?)
  • Do you really need x16 to your GPU? (also, probably not; most run at x8 with maybe 5fps difference)

I have a B350 board with GPU x8, NVMe x4 (in adapter in other x8 slot), NVMe x4 (M.2), and a 10G NIC (chipset) without any perceived bottlenecks. I think if you take a hard look at the actual bandwidth you need, you might be able to get away with a lot more options.

AFAIK you can't have 2 GPU with 8 lanes each AND an NVMe with 4 lanes on X470, maybe on X570 but i'm not sure

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

id be happy with a 4x 3.0 lane for the raid card, but there are far too many boards that just flat out disable the second pci-e x16 (physical) slot when use use an nvme in the m1 slot.   The chief offenders here are all the asrock 350, 450 series boards.      the x series boards generally do behave better, but also, pricier.  a bifurcated 8x/8x would be the best,  but that definitely requires an x series.

what board is this.   most of them the second pcie x16 physical slot is a 2.0 slot.

I don't know about the earlier boards, but below is lane distribution for my X570 Strix-E. I'd imagine the X-series and B-series are similar, with maybe not as many chipset NVMe lanes?

CPU Lanes

x4 NVMe

x16 PCIe (splits x8/x8 if both x16 slots are populated)

Chipset lanes

x4 NVMe

x4 PCIe (in 16x)

tons of sata/ethernet/blah.

- 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 Slots (single at x16 (PCIE2); dual at x8 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE4))*

*Supports NVMe SSD as boot disks

1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)

- 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen2 x2 (10 Gb/s)*

*Supports ASRock U.2 Kit
Supports NVMe SSD as boot disks
