iPad mini and Samsung Galaxy S4 deemed most fragile gadgets

A study from insurance firm SquareTrade Europe concluded that iPad mini and Galaxy S4 are the most fragile gadgets currently able to buy.

The study looked at the design and construction of the devices, as well as their weight, grip and water resistance. The results were put together as “breakability score”, which more fragile device has a higher number.

“We are all investing in more and more technology, so when we do we want to make sure that we are going to get our money’s worth”, said Kevin Gillan, MD of SquareTrade Europe. “By putting devices through tests that replicate real life situations, we want to help people make smart choices when it comes to choosing gadgets and ensure they are covered against accidental damage.”

The full list is as follows

1.    iPad mini – 7.5
2.    Samsung Galaxy S4 – 7
3.    iPad Air – 6.5
4.    Samsung Galaxy S3 – 6.5
5.    iPhone 5C – 6
6.    Nexus 7.1 – 6
7.    Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 – 5.5
8.    iPhone 5S – 5
9.    Nexus 7 2 – 5
10.    Moto X – 4.5

So what we can conclude from this is that apples build quality is the same as cheaper devices despite what  every "i-have-an-iphone" fanboy will tell you, tell us something we don't know :D

fwiw the same company did some research and found out that 33% of iphones die within 2 years, mostly to drops but thats old data
http://www.squaretrade.co.uk/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_iPhone_Study_0609.pdf

so heres some new data.
http://squaretrading.wordpress.com/2012/10/17/squaretrades-iphone-study-the-iphone-and-the-home/
23% of iphones damaged in a year, thats allot of money for nothing and it seems from the hoaxes about ios7 upgrade making them waterphoone and being able to charge an iphone in a microwave that if the iphone doesnt go lemming and kill itself the owners typically kill it anyway.

fwiw my friend Will who is VERY apple brainwashed hasnt been able to charge his iphone5s "Damn you Iphone... like having a car with a fuel gauge stuck in the red... it is charging, and has been sat at 17% all night with a lot of use it wont go down and I can't seem to get it to go up but it shows it is charging??? Even a re-boot wont sort it. One thing to do - ring apple and moan and get a new one", my friend tanya is now on her 3rd phone and danielle her second. not suprised.

And anything from Nokia is an instant -

I thought all the new ones were glass too

I know my S3 feels like a sheet of glass until I got an Otterbox for it. The plastic backing is just stupid and it's way too light to be very durable. At least the screen doesn't scratch...

My old S3 was a friggin tank.

I threw it through thick drywall, dropped it numerous times, and even swam with it on accident and it still worked. only minor scratches on the plastic really.

Just waiting to see how my new Nexus 5 holds up, hope I don't ever really find out. ;-)

Yeah iPad Air/Mini are so thin that they don't stand a chance after a drop.

Seems like pretty useless info to me. Truth is, smartphones and tablets are all relatively fragile and whether they break from a given fall pretty much comes down to your luck that day.

This information is useless unless they actually test a larger range of products. Almost the whole list is apple and samsung. How is that useful?
