Your valuable SSD space - Is it worth it to store games?

AustinTheIntern

What's your opinion on this? Do you absolutely need the quick load speeds? Or do you save that expensive storage space and dump your games on a HDD?

Depends..

If the SSD is less or 128GB then no, but if the SSD is bigger that 128GB then yes.

Same here, only game I put is bf4 because waiting a minute for the map to load was ridiculous. Now about 15 seconds max, other than that it's just my os and a handful of applications. Everything else is directed to my second drive.

I'm tempted to move BF4 to my secondary SSD, but my biggest issue is that Origin (from my knowledge) won't let you store games in multiple locations.

Yes it will change the download location of your games then put BF4 there and change the location back to your game drive afterwards

I don't find SSD's that expensive. I also don't keep games installed that I don't play so it doesn't really take up that much space.

Most of my games on my WD Black, but a few of my most favourite ones on my SSD.

I have my 256SSD with about 5 games on it and the rest on my HDD, and I just move the more popular ones i use on my ssd, i noticed about a 20second decrease in booting NFS MW 2012. at one point i was using MK junction links when steam didnt support multiple locations for games, put steam on my hdd, so games automatically downloaded there and then used hard drive junction links to have a few games on my ssd

I'll install single player AAA games on my SSD for a first playthrough. Anything that I want to just have sit on my machine for more than a couple of weeks goes to the HDD.

I have my OS and my modded skyrim on it. OS for obvious reasons and I put my modded skyrim on it because the high res textures always take a while to load.

Depends on the game. Games like Starcraft, Dota, League and others that you have to wait for the other players to load, it doesn't matter to me because everyone must wait for everyone to load.  Games like Battlefield where you can actually have a few seconds to a minute to get moving then yes, I would store it on my SSD.

500 GB 840 EVO here, so yeah I store some games on my SSD.. Obviously I don't store a ton of games on it because I don't want to have to move games in the future to make room for newer games, but I put the games that I'll play the most on my SSD.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

I have origin application on the ssd and I put the bf4 files in that games folder than changed the download location for everything else and downloaded a small game then dumped the rest of my origin games in it.

I have Planetside 2 and my OS on my SSD, all my other games on my 500gb Hitachi drive.

I can be a cynical a**hole at times. I apologize if I cause any offence at those time. I also occasionally have issues communicating my point. Extreme introversion + Photographic memory + Some other things.

about 95% of my games are on a hard drive.
but games like Skyrim benefit from the SSD, screen loading times are much better

I keep select games on it that would truly benefit from it, e.g. Skyrim. I have Team Fortress 2 on it purely because it's the one game I constantly go back to, so a little performance boost doesn't hurt.

If my drive was smaller than 240GB, I would only keep the OS, Skyrim, and a couple programs on it.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Does SSD make a big difference with Planetside 2? I just downloaded that game last night... now you have me wondering if I should delete it off my HDD and reinstall it on the SSD instead. Never played it one way or the other so I don't know.

Right now the only game I have on my SSD is BF4 and I am always one of the first in on a map change. Everything else is on the HDD. I have not yet played a game where I found myself wishing the load times were quicker, not even Skyrim. Usually Skyrim loads quicker than I can even read the text or spin the model a full rotation on the loading screen.

Plex Server/Couch Gamer: Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5, i7 4790k, Corsair HX750, Fractal Node 804, Deepcool Captain 240 AIO, G.SKILL Sniper Series (4 x 8GB @ 1866), MSI Lightning 780, Samsung 850 Evo 500GB, HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB 7200rpm.

Well you can just copy and paste the planetside 2 folder if you want. That's what I did.

But does it make a difference? Somewhat, yeah. The game still loads slowly, but much quicker than it did on my 5200RPM harddrive, and a bit faster (~5-6 seconds) than my 7200RPM drive.

Put it this way. If you play Planetside 2 a lot, then do it. It's worth it. If it's just a game you play every now and then, don't bother.
