SFX vs ATX

Jillorval

Hi guys :)

Is there a reason, if you have the choice, to choose an ATX power supply vs a SFX one? (Thermals, aso...)

No real reason.

SFX is real neat for builds where a larger PSU may obstruct stuff. Neat in ITX small formfactor cases.

ATX is cheaper, bigger and has a lot more models for sale.

SFX is smaller, more expensive and rare than ATX.

SFX PSUs are not as quiet as you can get with similarly priced ATX PSUs, they have much shorter hold up time, and they don't perform quite as well. All of the higher end SFX PSUs also lack multi rail.

If my case only accepts SFX PSU's, I buy an SFX PSU. That's the end of my decision process making between the two sizes usually.

There's one or two instances where I'd consider an SFX PSU instead of an ATX psu for cases that have ATX support, but it's usually to give something like a CPU cooler or a GPU more room to breathe in a case. Examples include but are not limited to Sliger Cerberus, Silverstone Sg13, NZXT H200

Thanks for all the answers! I'll then get an ATX PSU :)
