What are some really good CPU coolers that utilize the push pins?

LebowskiBuschemi

Could I get some recommendations for an aftermarket push pin CPU cooler? I've got no preference for any specific brand. A huge list would be nice since getting a specific component here is kind of a pain so it's best if I have a huge amount of options lol.

Well I’m not sure what you mean by push pull? I assumed an air cooler with 2 fans. One pulling air in and the other pushes the air ‘out’ ?

If you're referring to push-pin installation, as with Intel's stock cooler, then I'm not sure why you'd necessarily want that, as it's not usually present on any cooler that's at least half-decent, and it's also not the most reliable way to mount a cooler (mostly because the pins usually break whenever you try to remove the cooler).

Noctua's mounting system, for example, is surprisingly easy and will keep the cooler much more securely attached to the board. Even be quiet's mounting has gotten a lot easier over the years (I've personally got a Dark Rock Pro 4 and despite its massive size, installing it was really easy).

Are you referring to Intel's plastic pin installation? If so, why are you looking for that in particular?

What are you trying to cool?

@LebowskiBuschemi antec a40 (I think that is what it's called) 92mm, I've been using one on an I5 for a fee years. Works well enough.

Just a 3600X. I guess the reason why I'm going for the push pull config in particular is because of how easy it is to install.

Sorry about that. What I meant by ":push pull configuration" was the plastic pins that are used to installed coolers similar to the Intel stock cooler.

Not sure what plastic pins you are referring too. Never installed a intel cpu before haha

Bro, those things that you pressed down on when installing an Intel cooler on a motherboard.

No, that has actual mounting hardware.

I'm pretty sure only Intel's stock coolers use those. Even aftermarket coolers made for Intel sockets use mounting hardware like screws and whatnot.

Actually, there are aftermarket coolers that each have a push pin installation method.

Well, I'll elaborate a bit. So, when you install an Intel stock cooler, each corner of the cooler has this thing called a "push pin" or whatever. Prior to installing the cooler, you lift up the pins and then once the cooler's on the board, you just press down on each pin and then slightly tighten each pin.

If we be nitpicky, you don't tighten push-pins. You lock them in place. The mechanism opens pin when you lock it, so that there are plastic ledges holding it in place.

There are probably more push-pin towers than TX3 and Gammaxx 300. Most of them are like stock cooler.

A well designed mounting system, such as Noctua's, is super easy to install. I don't know why you want to limit yourself to push pin style only. It will also be more robust to removal and re-installation.

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

They use push pins, I've had 3 of them and used the push pins for LGA1366 and LGA1155 rigs.

So it seems. Though they have screws also, maybe those are for AMD mounting then.

That could be it, I've never actually used the screws that come with them, since I've always used them on Intel rigs.

No one seems to have actually replied to this so I will - a cooler can only be installed with push pins on an Intel socket motherboard. There are aftermarket coolers that use push pins (like the Be Quiet Pure Rock Slim that I had) but that's only for installation on an Intel CPU. For AMD they will use a different mounting mechanism, usually using the god-awful AM4 mounting brackets with the lever design.

Don't be intimidated by having to use screws. It's the most secure mounting & it's also the easiest IMO. There's really nothing to it.

The Gammaxx 400 uses a similar mechanism to the stock intel and amd mounting which means push pins and the latch respectively.
