Orange or gray label? The latter is alright for an entry-level systems, the former is something I cannot recommend for anything basically.

It's good enough for most solo GPU builds, unless you're willing to drop a small fortune on a PSU alone.

It has decent amperage on the 12v (52A), has very VERY decent voltage control (I've seen a LOT worse!) and the ripple noise is minimal according to reviews (<50mV @ 12v).

Personally, I see no reason why it shouldn't reliably handle a ~200W GPU paired with a ~100W CPU with a few casing fans at 40c ambient temperature.

I don't understand the mentality of people who make bold remarks such as "Oh, it's a ticking time bomb!" or perhaps "Oh, I wouldn't put it even in my granny's PC!" or how about "Oh, I hope your property insurance covers fire damage!" and other nonsense along similar lines.

I think they're deluded by the marketing hype, or at least that's what my theory is. That's what marketing is supposed to do with young people's minds, after all!

In any case, they should know better...

It'd be easier to advise if we know what the system you're putting together looks like.

The PSU does not make sense for any build with new parts. If you need 650W, you can afford a very high end PSU. If you can't afford a very high end PSU, you don't need 650W. Just get a higher end, lower wattage PSU.

Or maybe, just maybe, some people actually read reviews.

The only good thing to say about the VS series is that they’re the best choice out of bad power supplies.

Theyre ok. They’re not recommended here unless you’re running a fairly average system and the better psus are substantially more expensive.

If you can, list system specs this psu would be for. And how much a CX550m or TX550 costs in comparison

My rig:

Gigabyte ga-h81m-ds2

I5-4460

2 hyperx 1600 8gb

1 asus 750ti 2gb

1 kingston ssd 240gb

1 wd blue 1tb

2 wd blue 500gb

4 generic fan with led

They Grey units are fine, the orange label units were... Less good.

For a system like you mentioned it will work, but if you want to upgrade specifically your GPU in the future, you can consider going up a tier (see the PSU tier list linked below) and get a 550w model to offset the quality increase and get a PSU fit for all but the most high end dual GPU systems:

The Pure Power 9 from Be Quiet would be my go to, but it depends on the availability where you live.

The tier list is a waste of time.  Too many units incorrectly categorized.

Feel free to suggest a different PSU from what I suggested ?

A tier list should never be the 'Be-all And End-all' of discussion, but can serve as a helpful guide to not choose garbage.

That is true.  At least there isn't much garbage in the upper tiers.    Hard to make a recommendation without knowing his location.  Pricing varies so much from country to country.  I guess I will ask.

May I ask where you are located?   Do have any preferred web sites you like to purchase from?
