What CPU for RX5700XT

Hi guys! I am building a new gaming PC, I am going for the 5700XT since it gives the best performance in its price range. I was wounder what CPU you would recommend? Right now I am thinking about the i5 9600K. I will be playing 1440p. Is it worth the money going to i7 for gaming? Wilm i5 bottleneck?

i believe the general consensus would be to go with a ryzen 5 3600 and a b450 board

at 1440p you wont see any difference between an R5 or i5 or i7 without some really good GPU, say the 2070 Super with a 144Hz monitor.

Ok, so will a B450 board be enough. Or should one aim for a X570? And ryzen 3600 or 3600X? The 3600X seems better, but a bit more expensive

Good B450 boards like the MSI ATX ones will do, if not others like the Asus TUF Pro is also fine unless you want PCIe 4.0 and do more than just gaming heavily. 3rd gen draws as much power as 1st gen parts of the same core count.

Ok. But as far as choosing the 9600K or 3600 the price is no difference. Is Ryzen still better in gaming, or is it supposed to be cheapers than i5?

which is better will depend on the game. Think of the 3600 as the alternative of Intel's i7-8700, lower clock speed than the 9600k but SMT lets it pull ahead in multithread performance.

The 3600 is a better all around CPU than the 9600k. You will be essentially the same gaming performance out of both cpus especially because you will most definitely be gpu bottlenecked which isn't a bad thing. As for anything else the 3600 will win 99% of the time. Also if you are not interested in overclocking the 3600 is a much better cpu as it comes out of the box with amazing performance while the 8600k really needs to be overclocked in order for it to be worth its cost. It should also be noted that the motherboards required for overclocking any 9th gen intel cpu are quite a bit more expensive than a b450 motherboard capable of overclocking the 3600.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything less than a 9900k from intel. The 9700k makes me nervous that it will have some of the same issues the current i5 cpus have in the future with its lack of hyperthreading. As for AMD the 3700x is a good CPU and probably what I would get between the i7 and r7.

Unless you do streaming or other multithread work, you'll need much stronger GPUs than the 5700XT to see a difference between i7 and R7 to R5

Dude the i7 or i5 are useless nowadays because they lack any multithreading but AMD has SMT in their whole lineup. If you need an i5 equivalent then the 3600/X will be the best choice as it makes up in everything else that it loses in that little bit of gaming performance. The i7 equivalent is of course the 3700X/3800X where the same is true. Not to mention the Intel security issues and the SMT advantage so there you have my take on it. 3600/3700X however your budget allows it.
