Yeah I have used over 64Gbs of RAM in AE before. But that's mainly because AE uses your RAM as a ramdisk so it just fills the timeline into memory then goes to your cache drive then normal drive

in fact its mostly MSI that is doing Bios flashback capable motherboards. 

 

 

bios flashback shouldnt be confused with flashing a bios. one requires a CPU, the other does not.

Yeah I did a 10 minute animated video for my channel back in April on 32GB in 4K with combined with Character Animator and it was just a dog hopping between programs doing changes to animate the movements, then previewing it to see how it looked together. I had a sizeable AE cache of 200GB, but handling all the nested sublayers beneath it in (which were sitting in the cache already), just caused the 1/4th, 1/8th previews to go so slow and even with 32GB it would constantly dump to the cache after 10 seconds or so of RAM Previewing, and then when the timeline preview got to portions that I had already rendered it would crawl at 80% pulling the layers from the 500mb/s SSD cache back to the RAM. Basically I said never again to doing that on 32GB b/c it was just not enough to hold all that data simultaneously and allow for compilation. Granted this is a special case but I can't really see anyone having a good time in AE in a 4K timeline on 16GB with nested layers. 1080p? for sure. 2K, yeah for projects not dealing with more of Creative Suite, but Jeebus...

 

It's worth it to just go up to 32GB if you're going to use AE imo. Find somewhere in that recommended parts list to scrape the $20-30 together to upgrade to a 2x16GB kit and downgrade elsewhere. I'm not sure what I'm missing but it doesn't look like its double the price (at least in freedom units). The RAM listed for this build is $109 on newegg, but there are at least 10 2x16 3200mhz kits on newegg from $115-130.

isnt the 2700x higher on the premiere pro benchmarks that they showed on puget systems? cause were talking about an editing build

Great video, perfect timing, I had just started shopping for upgrades to my PC. I don't do games, video editing is not great on my old AMD rig. I had considered the 2700 but after watching this video and looking at other benchmarks the extra $25 for the 3600 makes sense, plus I get the latest series from AMD.

 

The costs are in the range I was looking more or less. I had a more expensive motherboard in mind and the cheaper processor, so it would be a wash if I built it this way.  I'm not building from scratch, most of my components exceed the needs of this build. (Case, power supply, cpu cooler, storage.) It's more of a heart transplant for an old dog.

 

Now, I'm waiting for the budget gaming PC video to see if I'm on the right track for my son's upgrades.

I actually plan on making this buying this build this coming cyber Monday 2019. Is there a good build guide to follow along that will help with this build since it's my first pc.

 

Also my budget was 1500 with peripherals so I went with the 2060 super and either an AMD 2700x or 2800x depending on deals. Should any parts like power supply change?

I just found this video, but punching this into PCPartPicker dot com, it was out of stock in both Newegg and Amazon (it's there used, but I don't buy used) and checking a similar mb gives an error (though it might not be published yet) I'm also not seeing a cooler in this list as well, and reading a little of the thread suggests the 1660 super as well

What's the verdict on the rig as a whole--for someone wanting to build his own PC for the first time

Hi, i'm not sure if this thread is dead but here i am to dig it up.

so my situation is: i currently edit/mograph on the system scored attached, and need to replace my mobo, so maybe upgrade? it runs pretty well now but faster is always better.
i7-8700K at 5.0GHz
32GB 3200MHz
evga 1080 SC2

M.2 for OS and programs / M.2 for cache / SSD for project files / fat drive for storage

 

i'm in a situation where i need to replace my mobo but, if i'm going to do that, maybe i should take this time to go AMD? Any recommendations (not low budget since its just mobo and cpu, mid to high end please!)
i'm after super fast AE speeds and faster render times than i'm getting now.
