i'm not good with motherboards

ok so i think i've decided i'm going to upgrade to a threadripper but i'm not good with motherboard's if someone would be willing to recommend and help me pick out a good mother board for threadripper?

i know everyone keeps telling me i should just get a ryzen 9 3900x but they are out of stock .. anyone idea when they will be more available? i would get that but i have no idea how long i'll be waiting so i'm just going to upgrade to  thread ripper either way i go i have to change the motherboard because my current processor is i7 8700 with LGA 1151 socket

so with that being said... what do you recommend?

keep in mind i'm not looking to overclock

what threadripper? and can you wait? 16 core Ryzen is just around the corner, same with threadripper 3.

well if it were up to me i'd just upgrade to i9 9900k and just be done with it but if i'm going  to upgrade might as well get something with more cores

it would be easier to upgrade to something like 3900x but you cant even buy it right now .. and if i was for those new processors they are just going to be more money?

the threadripper is a toss between the 2950 and the 2920

not only will i have to change the board but i will also have to change the cooler for that because its bigger

wish i knew what the deal was for the 3900x wonder how long that will be before it comes back in stock ?

no specific requirements no ... but i do need m.2 ... 2 would be nice but not a must at least one will do that is my boot drive

dont care about rgb lighting

something that isnt out of date and have to update bios would be nice

It really depends, but im guessing we will get something with the launch of threadripper 3. As thats the same time as the 3950x comes out. The 16 core AM4 CPU.

They will be more money, atm there is talk of a possible 24 core for a little over 1100$.

All AM4 X570 boards have that.

Depends on how much you are spending in total on CPU+Mobo.

any word on when those are suppose to come out?

the 16 core should but that much in price ?

anyways maybe that means when they come out the 3900xx will come back in shock and price will even go down

16 core AM4 is per officiall information supposed to have an MSRP of 750$.

Thats likely, tho we have no idea how popular the CPU is going to be once its back in stock.

Btw, check microcenter, ive heard they do false pricing in the online store to avoid people hoarding CPUs to resell

If you are looking at x570 boards. There are 3 price categories worth buying.

200$, 300$ and 360$~

With Asus Tuf being the 200$ board

ASrock Taichi at 300$

And Gigabyte Auros Master at 360$.

The features you are looking for in terms of USB and expansion. And then VRM.

The x570 boards i mentioned pretty much wins on all of that at their given pricepoint.

They support pc 4.0?

All boards take advantage of the Rams speeds don't they?

I'm ok with an older bored as long as I have my m.2 slots I don't care about much else ?

But will the older borads need updated?

Tuf being a budget, I would feel bad paying what normally would be a 130$.... that said as well the Auros Master seems overpriced.

The Asrock Taichi is listed under 300$ and offers as much as the Auros and it's a great motherboard.

Check the HardwareUnboxed review for the taichi..

you know the VRM on the Tuf is the same VRM as featured on the Z390 Hero board right?

and featurewise its pretty ok......... so its by far not a 130$ board.

its the best board worth getting if you have a large budget.

Ok awesome

So another stupid question... What makes the the 3900x and the 3950x 12 and 16 core CPUs better then a 12 and 16 core threadrippers ?

I'm asking but I wouldn't they there would be a big difference in performance?

And no one has recommended a threadrippers for upgrade?

Everyone keeps saying wait for the 3900x and 3950x?

they are better than the 12 and 15 core 2nd gen threadrippers, because they run on a better architecture and better node. 7nm and Zen 2 instead of 12nm and Zen+ which is what the threadripper 2000 uses.

51 minutes ago, Vance44 said:

untill AMD launches Threadripper 3000 together with the 3950x thats when the threadrippers will catch up. they will then use the exact same core design as the ryzen 3000 series.

52 minutes ago, Vance44 said:

because atm the fastest 12 core you can get is the 3900x. and im pretty sure the 3950x will be the fastest 16 core. threadripper 3000 will start at 24 cores apperantly.

53 minutes ago, Vance44 said:

more or less.

i mean if you for some reason wanted a lot of cores and IO, threadripper 3000 is comming at the same time as the 3950x starting at 24 cores and roughly 1200$.

I think I would just wait and pay the 700 to $800 for the 3950

The 3950 still uses the AM4 socket motherboard correct?

I might as well wait for that to come out rather than go with the 3900x?

With that being said if the 3950X uses the AM4 socket motherboard I can go ahead and get the motherboard so I've got it already
