Is it wrong to say "PC build" when you are talking about a Laptop?

I have seen a few people say PC build when they are talking about a laptop.
isn't that plain wrong or at least weird? or is it just fine?

Its incorrect, unless you are ordering a bare chassis and adding a CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage.  And you cant really do that anymore since MXM kinda died.

it's wrong since you have no choice on what it's built with. Same for prebuilt desktops

What context are they using the term under?

"PC Build" isn't a term that's actually used very often, unless they're saying "Here's my PC Build" and listing their PC that they built.

Either way, I can't think of any context that would make it apply to a laptop.

Here's my PC Build. Proceed to list the characteristics of his laptop.
I thought it only sounded weird to me LOL

It will always depend on the context and who you are talking to. Can't think of a reason to call a laptop a 'build' though, other than if you get a BTO-like machine.

It's always important to keep your target audience in mind when using certain phrases.. Which is how some idiot dude got mad at me last week, because he used the word "case" as a synonym for "desktop"/"PC"/"Computer"/Whatever you call it..

He's simply using the wrong terminology - a laptop isn't a PC Build.

It can be, if you build the laptop (custom chassis, using desktop parts).  But so few people do this that its not really worth mentioning.

Sure but there's a 99.9% chance that he didn't do that, since even when "custom laptops" were in vogue, they were still incredibly niche.
